The festival, which runs select dates March 8 – April 28, features an extensive lineup of one-of-a-kind boysenberry food and drink creations, entertainment and fun activities for the whole family
BUENA PARK, CA. – Guests are in for a double dose of Knott’s hospitality with the return of the highly-anticipated Knott’s Boysenberry Festival and the grand unveiling of the new Knott’s Hotel. The annual festival inspired by the little berry that started it all opens March 8, and just steps away, the Knott’s Hotel debuts its multimillion-dollar transformation, a new distinctive farmhouse-style overnight experience inspired by park founders Walter and Cordelia Knott. Guests will have the opportunity to indulge in more than 75 recipes at this year’s festival, ranging from savory to sweet; each food and drink item has a unique boysenberry twist that can only be found during this season. The boysenberry on top includes a full lineup of shows, live music and a wide selection of local crafters and artisans for guests of all ages to enjoy. Knott’s Boysenberry Festival operates daily through April 7 and Friday through Sunday April 12 – 28.
Boy-OH Boysenberry
This year's event will feature a blend of entirely new menu offerings and the return of fan favorites. Discover some truly inventive and original savory creations, including this year's chicken tikka marsala with boysenberry curry sauce and pork loin slices over mashed potatoes with a creamy boysenberry mustard sauce. Indulge your sweet tooth cravings with berry-infused dessert items throughout the festival, including the new boysenberry and chocolate stuffed cookie, lemon bar with a boysenberry compote and boysenberry brownie parfait. A great way to enjoy it all is by purchasing a tasting card priced at $55. The tasting card offers six tastings from a number of boysenberry-inspired dishes and drinks. A variety of signature boysenberry items will also be available for purchase a la carte. Tasting cards are available at Knotts.com or the theme park.
Boundless Boysenberry Entertainment
Knott's Boysenberry Festival also comes with endless entertainment throughout the park. From musical performances to fun interactive games, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Guests are invited to celebrate the heritage of California's original theme park with the show Knott's Preserved. Through song, dance and storytelling, the audience takes a musical journey from the little ghost town of Calico to the Seaside Boardwalk of the Roaring '20s to commemorate the heritage of the park. All aboard for a boysenberry bon voyage at the legendary Bird Cage Theatre with a special presentation of the comedy melodrama Riverboat Revenge. Guests are challenged to try their berry best in Boysenberry Fun and Games in Calico Park or head over to Calico Mine Stage for the wildly entertaining Boysenberry Pie Eating Contest. Young ones and the young at heart are invited to cozy up to the cutest critters on the farm, including horses, goats and other furry friends at Old MacDonald's Barn, a tribute to one of the farm's original attractions. Those unfamiliar with the berry that started it all are encouraged to grab a slice of history in the History of the Boysenberry Museum in Town Hall. Stroll through the streets of Calico and browse through all the unique boysenberry-inspired artisan products available at the Boysenberry Festival Craft Fair, with over two dozen local craft vendors.

Taste of Boysenberry Festival 2021 at Knott's Berry Farm

Picture
This past weekend we found ourselves back in a very familiar place, Knott's Berry Farm. It was opening weekend for their all new Taste of Boysenberry Festival, and it was so amazing to be back.

If you've been following us for awhile you'll know that we really haven't been up to much over the past year, for obvious reasons. But we're so glad you've all stuck with us now that we feel semi-comfortable being out in the world again.

We hope you're ready for some gratuitous food pics, because they're coming right at ya. And we'll end with the top 5 food items we tried!

Hi Knott's! It's so good to be back! We're ready for all the Boysenberry stuff!
Picture
Our first stop was of course for some Boysenberry Dippin Dots, and they were amazing!

Backstory on the shirt, my sister got me this shirt and gave it to me when we picked her up for this event, and I just had to wear it! Got so many comments on it throughout the day.
Picture
Ready for some food pics? You've been warned!!
Picture
Dippin Dots goodness. Didn't get any park tips from the Dippin Dots gal though.

Boysenberry Brisket Tater Tots topped with Crispy Jalapeño Chips and a Boysenberry Aioli Sauce. This was seriously legit and I want more of it right now.

Pork Bao Buns with a Boysenberry Kimchi and Nam Pla. They need to jar this Kimchi!
Picture
Mac and Cheese Bites over Tater Tots with a Boysenberry Siracha Ketchup

My sister hadn't been to Knott's since she was about 9, so we had to of course do some of the awesome Knott's traditions.
Picture
After all that savory stuff, it was time for some dessert. "Hint of Lemon" Churro Bites with a White Chocolate Sugar and a Boysenberry and Chocolate Dipping Sauce.

Boysenberry Key Lime Tart

There have also been some park improvements going on and the park looks amazing!

Cheeseburger with a Boysenberry Onion Spread on a Brioche Bun. Have to say, didn't get a whole lot of Boysenberry in this one. Hard to overpower the flavor of onions. Still tasty.
Picture
Boysenberry Flavored Shrimp and Grits. This was good, but they should have used the same shrimp as the shrimp taco (see below)
Picture
Boysenberry Balsamic Brussel Sprouts. These were actually quite tasty, but again, hard to overpower the flavor of Brussel Sprouts.
Picture
Boysenberry BBQ Meatloaf with Scalloped Potatoes. This was definitely more "Boysenberry Salisbury Steak", but still very tasty we thought.
Picture
Boysenberry Champagne Float. Very tasty.
Picture
Fiesta Village was a popular place, but plenty of seating for all!

Soon supreme scream. Soon!
Picture
Boysenberry Slushy Sangria

Chef Special Tamale with a Boysenberry Roja Sauce over Spanish Rice. Was very happy with this, it was a darn good tamale!

Knott's Berry Farm Boysenberry Festival Opening Weekend

Picture
Last weekend we were invited out to the Knott's Berry Farm Boysenberry Festival to take in the festivities and of course the food.

The event is growing each year and is definitely popular. We of course had an amazing time, but we also do have a few things we'd like to see updated since the event is growing so much, things to alleviate some of the growing pains.

Written by Gregg Condon
I think this is the right place
Picture
Let's get to eating!!
Picture
Our first stop was for a waffle and chips with ice cream. You know, for Breakfast. Both were good, although the Waffle needed something, and that something is the ice cream. We got the chips later in the day and they were just as good.

Both are found at the Ghost Town Bakery.
Picture
Three things we got to try at the tasting preview, and they were just as good, if not better than they were then.

All Three are available at Wagon Wheel Pizza across from Ghostrider.
Picture
Something that we didn't know was coming, and isn't on your tasting card, but is delicious, found in Spurs Chop House.
Picture
They are made to order, which is nice. I will say though, if we got this again we'd get it without the Hummus. I think that's part of the Shawarma, but I think we would have preferred a bit less of it.
Picture
After eating all that food, it was time to take in some of the sights.
Picture
Spring has sprung
Picture
Picture
Picture
Goatses
Picture
The merch game was on point
Picture
Definitely my philosophy
Picture
Cannot recommend the Boysenberry Cobbler enough. It's super easy and super good.
Picture
Yo, Yo, Yo ... that's my jam
Picture
Our faces all day
Picture
You can smell the boysenberries as you approach, so if you want to smell like boysenberries after a bath, get all this stuff.
Picture
And then of course, wrap yourself in your boysenberry towel
Picture
The wine and Beer tasting was back, although we have to say the "pours" you'd get with the tasting card were very inconsistent. By the end of the day you'd pretty much get a "shot" of Boysenberry beer.
Picture
The chili was a hit in our group (Outside Wilderness Dance Hall)
Picture
As was the sausage (also found Outside Wilderness Dance Hall)
Picture
Picture
It's not very often you could spend all day at a theme park, only ride 2 rides and feel like you had a full day, but you can at the Boysenberry Festival
Picture
Picture
Picture
Green Frog, Blue Frog, Green Frog ...
Picture
Picture
Picture
Purple Fly?
Picture
We didn't catch the Jam-Boree, but I'm sure it's great for those who are into that kind of thing
Picture
Picture
BOBA!!! (Starbucks inside the park)
Picture
Let's get back to the food, skirt steak skewer (also towards the front of the park)
Picture
Chicken Wings (by Ghostrider)
Picture
Chicken Skewer (Indian Trails)
Picture
Pulled Pork Fries (Calico Fry Co)
Picture
This brings us to one of the things we'd like to see changed. All of the food we just shared above other than the Chili, Boba and Sausage was at the very front of the park, mostly along the path to Ghostrider. That's a lot of food in a very small area, and an area with not a lot of seating (although you could sit in Spurs Chop House, which was nice).

We'd really like to see them spread this out to the rest of the park. 95% of everything was in Ghost Town. Things like the Tostada could have easily been put in Fiesta Village to give the festival more room to spread out among the park. It also would have helped with seating and food lines.

Just a suggestion.

We also heard from some others that food locations and the Dance Hall closed early on Sunday. The park was PACKED. Not sure if that's a scheduling issue or what, but hopefully that's something they address.

Alright, we have a bit of a Rapids Construction update below, but before we get to that, we also have our top 5 food items to share:
Gregg:
  • Jambalaya
  • Pot Roast
  • Mac and Cheese
  • Pulled Pork Fries
  • Sausage Bun
Kristi:
  • Pot Roast
  • Flank Steak
  • Jambalaya
  • Mac and Cheese
  • Chicken Skewer
Josh:
  • Mac and Cheese
  • Jambalaya
  • Pot Roast
  • Chicken Skewers
  • Cinnamon Chips
Janet:
  • Chicken Skewer
  • Flank Steak
  • Pot Roast
  • Mac and Cheese
  • Pulled Pork Fries
Kimber:
  • Sausage Bun
  • Mac and Cheese
  • Flank Steak
  • Pot Roast
  • Jambalaya

Let's take a look at the Rapids construction, there are finally a few walls up
Picture
Not a whole lot of visible work in this area
Picture
Picture
Picture
Picture
They are definitely doing some work in the queue
Picture
Picture
Alrighty, that's gonna wrap it up. We will probably head back to the park for more Boysenberry food at least once more during the Boysenberry Festival, probably in a few weeks. Be sure you head out to the park to check it out. You won't be disappointed.

More details about the Boysenberry Festival can be found here.
