LEGOLAND® CALIFORNIA REVEALS MAJOR ADDITIONS FOR 2017 AND BEYOND! CARLSBAD, Calif. (September 15, 2016) – As 2016 finishes its last few months, LEGOLAND® California Resort’s General Manager Peter Ronchetti announced at today’s press conference that big plans are already in action for 2017 including: new LEGO®NINJAGO™ rooms at LEGOLAND® Hotel; an expansion at LEGOLAND® Water Park and a new addition to LEGO® Star Wars™ Miniland! A familiar droid joined Ronchetti in announcing a new addition that’s sure to bring out the Force in all of the Resort’s guests in 2017: LEGO® Star Wars™: The Force Awakens Miniland Model Display. "Right now, at our secret Model Shop in Carlsbad, Master Model Designer Nik Ehm of our Merlin’s Magic Making team is working on creating six scenes that represent the first 30 minutes of Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” said Ronchetti. “There are two primary focal points – the more traditional character-driven scenes on the planet of Jakku, and an enormous LEGO® model of the Star Destroyer Finalizer. At 16-feet long, it will be the longest LEGO Star Wars Miniland model ever created!” LEGO® Star Wars™: The Force Awakens Miniland Model Display will be in the center of LEGOStar Wars Miniland and will include these scenes: Kylo Ren’s capture of Poe at planet Jakku; Rey’s rescue of BB-8; Poe and Finn’s escape from the Star Destroyer Finalizer; The wreck of Finn and Poe’s TIE Fighter; Rey, Finn and BB-8’s escape from Niima Outpost; and the escape from the Starship Graveyard. Lights, sound effects and animation will further bring the scenes and characters to life from this blockbuster film. The new LEGO® Star Wars™: The Force Awakens Miniland Model Display opens to the public in March 2017 just in time for spring break and will kick off the fan-favorite LEGO® Star Wars™ Days on March 4 and 5 in 2017. A giant wave took center stage as LEGOLAND surfers announced little guests can ride their first wave in Surfer’s Bay opening in time for summer 2017! This competitive water raceway is designed for children to compete against each other by jumping on a mat and racing down one of six water slides in this California beach themed expansion of LEGOLAND Water Park. Surfer’s Bay includes a new “spray ground” with multiple water jets splashing on and off and plenty of new LEGO models to create a fun place to cool off next summer. “Surfer’s Bay is a winning combination of LEGO theming, water and, of course, healthy competition to inspire our guests,” said Ronchetti. “ We’re truly providing guests a family environment filled with fun, interactive experiences that create lasting memories!” Also opening in 2017: LEGO® NINJAGO™ rooms at LEGOLAND Hotel! Immersing hotel guests in the popular LEGO NINJAGO universe, they will be able to sleep in the company of Cole, Nya, Kai and Lloyd and other cool LEGO ninjas throughout 18 premium themed rooms and two premium themed suites. The NINJAGO rooms are replacing kingdom themed rooms in preparation of the new LEGO Castle themed hotel opening in 2018. Ronchetti presented a first look of the new premium themed 250-room hotel at the press conference revealing the entrance and pool area . The ground breaking is expected in early 2017 and the new hotel will feature a new restaurant, pool area and themed Castle décor throughout. “At LEGOLAND California Resort, we pride ourselves in innovation, creativity and memorable experiences for our millions of guests we see each year and 2017 continues that tradition,” said Ronchetti. “Star Wars: The Force Awakens set records as the top-grossing film nationally of all time and we’re excited to bring it to life here in our popular LEGO Star Wars Miniland!” said Ronchetti. The LEGO® Star Wars™: The Force Awakens Miniland Model Display is included in the cost of admission to LEGOLAND California Resort. Ninjago World at Legoland is officially open today. Last week we were invited out to the media day preview. Below you'll find lots of pictures of the event, a full POV of the ride and a review of the ride. Be sure you check out the new ride and be sure to let us know what you thought of it. Written by Gregg Condon The entrance to Ninjago World There are lots of great Lego diagrams in the area The Ninja Kitchen has some great food and we tried it all. And it was all amazing especially the pork belly. More of the awesome Lego people Even a kid-sized rock climbing wall The entry to the ride, it looks really great. You can't see the ride building at all from the land. And of course the store at the exit The opening ceremony featured some ninja's, drums and lots and lots and LOTS of confetti. Let's take a look at the ride with video and pictures. Ride Review: So I think it's safe to say we were kind of hesitant about Ninjago. Not only are we wholly unfamiliar with the theme but after Iron Reef last year we weren't quite sure what to expect. While Iron Reef is fun, the capacity, ride vehicles and some of the effects on the ride didn't really excite a lot of people. Fortunately with Ninjago they've addressed all of these issues. First off, instead of one vehicle (holding 8 people max) at a time going through the ride Ninjago actually sends two vehicles (holding 16 people max) at a time. Each scene has two screens which effectively doubles the capacity from Iron Reef. The vehicles go through the station much faster than Iron Reef (as you can see in the video above) and the entire front of the vehicle doesn't need to be moved, just the "doors" on the side. Technologically the video is much more crisp and clear and there are many lighting and fog effects in the ride. The motion activated technology seems to work pretty well but takes some getting used to. We rode 4 times and by the last time we seemed to be getting it down. But even without being able to aim right where we wanted to without practice we still had a great time. It's a bit of a workout as well. Overall we think the ride is a solid addition to this park and considering Ninjago is Lego's biggest original franchise we have no doubt this ride is going to be a hit. The 3D glasses are placed in racks which probably makes them easier to clean The ride station which loads 4 groups of 4 for 16 riders at a time. Thanks again to Legoland for having us out, we had a great time and enjoyed the event and ride immensely. Related Updates:
One of our favorite parks has always been Legoland California. While sure we aren't the age range for this park it's just awesome to have a park dedicated to our favorite toy and we love any chance we get to head to this park. Last week we were at the premiere for the all new Lego Movie 4D (be sure to check out our review if you haven't yet) but we also had some fun in the park prior to the premiere and were able to get some pics of the all-new Ninjago land that's opening later this spring. Written by Gregg Condon We'll start off with a look at Ninjago which kind of to our surprise is going to be located very close to the front of the park. We really love this new trend that parks have of doing entire lands around new attractions. Some of the Ninjago characters No date on the new ride/land has been announced, but it will be this Spring. Below on the map you can see the area where the new land is going just to the right of the main entrance of the park. A few weeks ago the park sent us some sneak peek pics of the ride building and the new vehicles. Be sure to check it out here (and some of the pics below). New since our last visit is the all new Lego Heartlake City addition. It's definitely an area for the girls. The Carousel was very large and oddly didn't play any music, just clopping of the horses. Nice characters of the Lego Friends. We are definitely not the intended audience for this area of the park, but we thought it was very nicely done. Before we move on into the rest of the park be sure to check out our HD POV of the Fairy Tale Brook at the park. It's a great little ride. We'd also taken some video of Mini-Land but we didn't really care for the way it turned out. Next time we're at the park we're going to spend some time getting some great video of Mini Land. We've got some cool ideas on how to pull that off. One of our favorite parts of Legoland are all of the quirky little Lego figures. The Dragon coaster which if you haven't ridden it is basically a Lego version of Revenge of the Mummy at Universal Studios. Those who have ridden will know what I mean. One of these days we'll try and arrange it with the park to get some POV of this great fun family coaster. Legoland also has one of the best Splash Battles we've seen. Don't forget to head down to the park and check out The Lego Movie 4D ... NOW OPEN!!! Thanks again for checking out the update and for all of the incredible support. |
