SeaWorld San Diego unveils features of new dive coaster today during behind-the-scenes sneak peek2/25/2020
Today, (Tuesday Feb. 25, 2020) SeaWorld San Diego provided a behind-the-scenes sneak peek at some of the exciting features of the park’s new dive coaster, Emperor, and unveiled one of the ride cars for the first time. Emperor is a floorless dive coaster and will, in fact, be the tallest, fastest and longest dive coaster on the West Coast, as well as the only floorless dive coaster. Named for the world’s largest penguin, Emperor will mimic this species’ amazing underwater diving ability. Fun fact: emperors can dive to a depth of 1,800 feet. Riders on the Emperor coaster will climb to 153 feet, where they will be suspended on a 45-degree angle at the crown of the ride before plunging down a 143-foot facedown vertical drop accelerating to more than 60 miles per hour. The coaster will feature two floorless trains each holding 18 riders in three, six-person rows. The graphics on the nose plates of the coaster are purple/blue and yellow, an homage to the bright coloration of an emperor penguin. SeaWorld San Diego is the only place in the western hemisphere with an emperor colony and was the first zoological facility in the world to breed the species. While cueing up to ride Emperor, riders can learn important and inspiring conservation information about penguins in general, with a special focus on emperors. This exciting new attraction will also highlight an important new animal-conservation partnership between SeaWorld and Penguins International, an organization dedicated to penguin conservation and research that will focus on penguin awareness and the conservation needs of this special aquatic bird. The partnership will include collaboration on educational elements that will be integrated into the attraction experience to educate guests on everything from penguin behavior and the effects of climate change on their habitats, to the work that SeaWorld and Penguins International are doing to help the species. The partnership with SeaWorld will help advance Penguin International’s conservation programs. A portion of the proceeds from sales of penguin merchandise will also be donated to Penguins International to support their important conservation, education and research efforts. Built by Bolliger & Mabillard, Emperor is next to Journey to Atlantis on the east side of the park. Related Videos

Last weekend we headed down to San Diego to check out Christmas Celebration at SeaWorld. We hadn't been to SeaWorld since Ocean Explorer opened last year and were very excited to check out not only Christmas Celebration but all of the other new stuff at the park. Written by Gregg Condon The trip down had a dual meeting, as I was meeting my half sister for the first time ever. Not going to get into too many details here, but will say that we totally hit it off, and I rode a coaster with my sister (something I never thought I'd say). So yay!!! =) Welcome to SeaWorld!! Manta is easily one of the best coasters in CA. So deceiving to look at. So fun to ride. Flaming-O's!! We'll get back to you a bit later Clyde and Seamore Unfortunately the times didn't work out for us to see this. Wish they'd just had continuous shows throughout the day. Let's check out how the Dolphins celebrate Christmas!! Hey there Electric Eel!! This was my view for most of the show. Pro Tip: If you're going to lean forward and hold your phone up and block everybody behind you, at least hold your phone the right way. I did manage to maneuver around her to get some good pics. They're Flipping!! One of our favorite exhibits Since they were playing Christmas music and had lights up, we had some fun with this one!! Let's go check out Rudolph's Christmastown!!! Some really cool displays We showed up just in time to see the lighting of the Christmas tree Plethora of Penguin Pictures coming in 3, 2, 1 Ok, maybe not a plethora, but I was in my happy place. It was nesting season. (click pics to see larger versions) Hey howdy hey, it's an Electric Eel!! We didn't ride this trip, we had to get good seats for Clyde and Seamore, but we know how fun it is. We'll get the credit next trip. (click pics to see larger versions) This show filled up super fast Let's check out Santa's Christmas Village!! Hey, that rhymes!! So many Christmas Trees around the park Told ya The Sea Lion and Otter show is always a favorite We got video of most of the show And some pics. The Animal Trainers always look like they're having so much fun. (click pics to see larger versions) Thanks SeaWorld for a great afternoon and evening of fun. This is definitely a great family Christmas event that's not to be missed!! We can't wait to head back to the park next year for Tidal Twister!! Related Videos:
Related Updates: Last week we were invited out to SeaWorld San Diego to check out the all new Ocean Explorer as well as the new Orca Encounter. Overall we really enjoyed the new area even though it's definitely for the younger set, which is totally fine considering next years addition is for us thrill seekers. Written by Gregg Condon Welcome to Ocean Explorer Lots of fun kid-sized flat rides in the area And of course the all new Submarine Quest Lining up for our ride Be sure to check out our POV of Submarine Quest Hey little buddy The other new addition for this summer is the all new Orca Encounter. I have to be 100% honest, when I watched the preview video below that Al shot during the AP Previews I was concerned that it still contained too many "show" elements and it wasn't going to convince any of the SeaWorld detractors that they've gone far enough. I envisioned just a huge area where the Orca's would swim and the stadium was just there for you to go in and watch them throughout the day. But after seeing Orca Enounter I can definitely see where SeaWorld is going with the new show and it's definitely different than their previous shows. I hope those who are against SeaWorld will take the time to actually watch the show prior to making up their minds. Here are some pictures of the show, we had some video but because people are rude, it didn't turn out great. We'll try and get back this summer to hopefully get a better full video of the show. We also took a ride on the awesome Bayside Skyride during our visit and were able to get a nice POV of that as well. Thanks again to SeaWorld for having us out, make sure you get out to the park to check out the all new additions for this summer and of course all of the other amazing things in the park.
