SAG/AFTRA members are not eligible. Yesterday we headed up to Six Flags Magic Mountain to get some rides in on Revolution for it's last day but also to see some out of town friends. Site contributor and friend Renee was out from Orlando for the Disneyland Half Marathon (that update will be tomorrow) and was spending the day at the park, so I had to head up to spend some time as we don't get to hang out nearly enough. Arriving at the park at opening, it was already a warm day. Banners are already out promoting New Revolution as well as the Season Pass sale. Fright Fest decorations, more in the park (and below). Be sure to come to our event on October 2 to see it in person!!! =) They are really pushing the dining passes and the "all you can drink sports bottles" for 2016. Both are a great deal!! Suggestion: If they aren't going to let outside drinks in and are pushing all you can drink bottles, then they need to have places to get drinks when the park opens. At about 10:30 I went to get a refill at the Full Throttle Coke Freestyle Machines and it had no ice. The park had JUST opened. I had to go next door to get ice. And throughout the day the line to use the Freestyle machines at this location was out into the midway. They need to come up with a better location for these machines IMO. This also means that they need to have locations open at the back of the park prior to 11:30, especially on hot days like yesterday. For the first time in a LONG time, first stop of the day was Revolution. They will be trimming some trees around the ride and even removing some. Hopefully they'll keep some but we would love to see the ones around the loop cut back a bit so you can see it. Bye trains, don't let the door hit you where the lord (Anton) split you. Still a landmark No word if the waterfalls will be back, it'd be nice. But it likely depends on how much rain we get this winter due to the drought. Hopefully the shady queue will remain, it'll probably be needed when the ride reopens. Heading into the station No word on how much redesign the station will get, but some paint, etc would be nice. We'll see what happens back here, if anything. It would be nice if the observation deck would make a return, but with ADA requirements it's probably a long shot. They gave out some great buttons, we do have 1 extra to give away, we'll have to come up with some cool way to do it in the next few weeks. After a couple of rides on Revolution it was time to meet up with Renee and a few other friends to go on a few rides including Twisted Colossus of course. If you ever wonder where those awesome Orlando updates come from, wonder no more. =) After a few "credit" rides on Twisted Colossus, Green Lantern (those who had the credit obviously sat out) and Speedy Gonzales, it was time to head back over to Revolution. Interesting thing about yesterday, they were doing assigned seating, one patron didn't enjoy that very much and they actually had to call security to escort him out of the park. Folks, if they are doing assigned seating on a ride, don't gripe, don't throw a hissy, don't start cursing in front of kids, just say thank you, get on the ride and be done with it. Back over by Revolution, they are working on the Chupacabra maze. That's gonna wrap it up for today's update. We've got a VERY busy 2 months coming up so the next SFMM update will probably be for Mountain Madness on October 2. We'll be of course posting all day and hopefully have lots of great pictures to share with you from our first ever event. We hope to see you there!!
Thrilling New Hybrid Coaster, The Joker, Coming to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in 2016
Wood Meets Steel Creating Unique Experience
In Spring 2016, Six Flags Discovery Kingdom will open the most-anticipated new roller coaster in northern California in over 10 years, The Joker. This state-of-the-art extreme coaster will be the “must ride” coaster of the season, adding to the park’s status as Northern California’s most thrilling theme park.
“The Joker will be the most talked about new coaster in 2016,” said Don McCoy, park president. We are excited to introduce this innovative technology that marries the best of both classic and modern coaster designs to offer our guests an unparalleled and unique experience.”
The Joker ride is the second DC Comics-themed attraction at the park after SUPERMAN™ Ultimate Flight opened in 2012 and the villainous character’s personality is evident in the coaster’s chaotic twists and turns including a first ever “step-up-under-flip inverted roll” that takes riders horizontal. The Joker ride also features the ultimate “fake-out” with a unique breaking wave turn, the only one of its kind on the West Coast.
Additional highlights of The Joker include:
The Joker ride is being transformed from what was the park’s iconic and traditional wooden coaster Roar which closed on August 16, 2015. The Joker ride is scheduled to open in Spring 2016.
