This past weekend was the opening night for Fright Fest at Six Flags Magic Mountain. So we made our way up in the evening to check out the event a bit. We didn't do any mazes or anything on this visit, but did spend some time in the scare zones and in the stores. It's fair to say that there is more Fright Fest merchandise available than in any previous year. Do wish it was park specific and not just generic "Six Flags" though. But definitely some cool looking stuff. Let's head in! Written by Gregg Condon  Welcome back to Fright Fest!  Open the door, the Demons Door that is!  One of two new scare zones, Terror Rising: Dark Developments  I think they could have just stuck with "Terror Rising", don't need the rest.   The area was rather sparsely populated, in fact I only saw 1 scareactor in the area. A theme for much of the night sadly.  Took a ride on Viper for my friends from Coaster Kings!  We love this Scare Zone! Of course, that meant we had to visit a friend ...  Coolest. Flowers. EVER!  The other new scare zone, The Deadzone  Lots of bright colors and definitely fits The Underground theme   Sadly, this area was also pretty sparsely populated, only 2 or 3 monsters here.   The area looks great though! And I'm sure we'll see more monsters this upcoming weekend!      Some really amazing props and a mini walk-through  Not sure which one of us is scarier  Would have loved to get pics of the full car, but there was literally a family sitting on the hood eating dinner. No, I'm not kidding.  A look down at The Deadzone/The Underground  Sewer of Souls was not open on opening night. Not sure if it opened on Sunday. Anybody know?   Tatsu is back open!  Sneaking a couple of Constructions pics in!   Due to construction, this scare zone is a bit smaller than usual.  City Under Siege is back!   Definitely one of the more popular scare zones  Had to visit some old friends  Terrortory Twisted is also back this year!     The props in here are amazing  Full Throttle Nights are back as well!  And that brings is back to Demon's Door!   MerchandiseThere's a lot of great merchandise at this years event too!   Not cool enough in Southern California to need this yet
 Definitely don't need more cups, but this one is cool looking!  I'm all for being bold and out there, but this was on an infants shirt. Seriously.
They also had a lot of 3rd party shirts that were actually less expensive than you'll find them elsewhere. ESPECIALLY if you have a discount. Worth checking out in the slideshow below.  Was glad to see them FINALLY put some 50th Anniversary Merchandise out on the floor. There's just one problem.  This ride does not exist nor has ever existed at Magic Mountain.  This one is "slightly" better. But seriously, put out some proper merchandise, celebrating the parks history, I promise, they'll fly off the shelf.  Goodnight from Fright Fest. Happy Friday all, it's time for a quick update from Six Flags Magic Mountain. Lots of progress being made on the 2022 coaster as well as Fright Fest prep.  Fright Fest is coming!   Tatsu is still closed  Have I mentiond how much I love these posters. This one especially.
 Lots of work being done for the 2022 coaster!  As I was leaving the park I saw a truck arriving with rebar, and a cement truck as well.   Due to it's proximity to Riddlers, I wouldn't be surprised to see that shut down for a bit this fall/winter.  See ya Teen Titans Pizza!  Somebody parked a Bobcat in front of the hole in the wall  But we have ways around that. =)  Sorry for the extreme zoom from the Scream station. Track is on site!  Batman is currently running 1 train empty  City Under Seige is back, as well as the slider show!  Screampunk is back too!  Hiring Event tomorrow and next week!  Did you know you can get a Dole Whip float in the park?  Why you visit during the week when the kids are in school  It's not nighttime so no full throttle nights  One of our favorite scare zones!

This past Friday night we headed back to Six Flags Magic Mountain for another round of scares at Fright Fest. After an opening night that was well over 100 degrees and packed, it was nice to visit on a Friday Night and have it be in the low 70s and VERY manageable crowds. We definitely recommend it. Let's head in!!

Where we would spend most of our night, but more on that later.
We first started off with the mazes and Vault 666 which I didn't experience on opening night.
Now in it's 5th (I think) year, this was easily the best year for this maze so far. Other than some of the props and the path, this maze seemed entirely new. Gone is the "animals and human hybrid" theme and it's taken on a whole new life. 
Condamned was also really great, it just seems really quiet in there this year for some reason.
I try to get this shot every year, and it never works out.
Red's was fun as always, but would love to see some changes to this one next year. Or an entirely new maze.

Exile Hill
We did both Willoughby's and Sewer of Souls. It's definitely time for another re-theme for Willoughby's. It's still fun and the talent in here is great as always. I'd love to see the Willoughby's story continue, but a fully re-imagined maze is definitely needed here for next year. Sewer of Souls was great again, we did it once with the 3D and once without. Great both times.

We also got some more story time with Lorraine Lurane. One of our absolute favorite characters at any Halloween event. Definitely not to be missed.

For some reason, 99% of the shots I took in Terrortory Twisted didn't turn out.
