Holiday In The Park 2023 at Six Flags Magic Mountain

Last weekend we were invited out to Six Flags Magic Mountain for one of our favorite holiday events, Holiday at the Park. Even though it was our Anniversary we wanted to make sure we took the time to visit for a few hours and enjoy the park, and we're very glad we did.

Let's head in for some holiday fun!
Picture
Picture
Before we get to the holiday fun though, a look at the updated front entrance where all of the ticket booths have been removed other than the ones on each side.
Picture
It definitely opens up this area and it will be interesting to see if they open it up more in the weeks and months to come. We definitely wouldn't be mad if they made the entry plaza after security bigger to accommodate the crowds during the summer for both Magic Mountain and Hurricane Harbor.
Picture
Iconic Park Entry!
Picture
Also wanted to take a possible last look at the Golden Bear Theater, which is slated for demolition soon.
Picture
Saw so many great shows in here. Weird Al. Jars of Clay. Okay, so like two.
Picture
But there were a lot of iconic shows here over the years including Oingo Boingo, New Kids on the Block. Jonas Brothers, Spinal Tap (with puppets).

Could this be the last event displayed on this iconic sign?
Picture
We also had a new video last week where we detailed what we could see in this spot, and also Knott's Camp Snoopy changes. Check it out below!

Alright, let's get into the Holiday fun! Santa and Mrs. Claus wished us a happy anniversary!
Picture
I think there are 2 days of Hanukkah left?
Picture
Did you know all of the holiday characters come out from backstage here like the monsters in Fright Fest? We didn't. It was very cool, wish we would have known so we could get video.
Picture
Severe lack of sliders, but still incredible! Plus, snow!
Picture
Picture
Heading over to get our Gleampunk on!

Would it be a holiday event with no hot chocolate? You can even enhance it with some awesome flavorings!

The decorations back here seemed a bit lacking this year, but the playlist is amazing!

We recreated the playlist on Spotify when this area debuted, and Apple Music this year.
You can play it below!

The bus is back!!
Picture
I have to admit, this is one of my favorite holiday area's of any park.

We end our visit back in the front of the park, with some incredible lights.

Even a bit of haunt fog to enjoy!

Thanks again for having us out SFMM!

Six Flags Magic Mountain Fright Fest 2023 - Highly Improved in 2023!

This last weekend we were invited out to Six Flags Magic Mountain to check out this years Fright Fest. After the success of Scream Break earlier this year, we were very much anticipating this event and hoping that some of the operational changes made during Scream Break would carry over to Fright Fest.

Unfortunately with some delays in the two new mazes, and them keeping the previous 6 mazes we feared that perhaps they'd stretched themselves too thin again. We were pleasantly surprised that this wasn't the case, and that many of the existing mazes have received significant upgrades and updated storylines.

So let's head right in and have some spooky fun!
Picture
Picture
Before the lights went out in the park, we were invited to a bit of a reception with some Fright Fest treats, which allowed us to get some daytime pics of decor.
Picture
It was a delightfully chilly evening at the park, which just added to the spooky factor.
Picture
Picture
Picture
Some fantastic photo ops in front of Golden Bear Theater.
Picture
Picture
Sadly this one had some damage, don't touch stuff!!
Picture
Also managed to get a ride on the best hyper coaster on the west coast.
Picture
At 7:00 it's time for the monsters to be unleashed! In our opinion, Magic Mountain has the best opening "scaremony" of any theme park haunt. It's just so fun.
Picture
Unlike previous years, we only have video of the new mazes on our YouTube, but we'll be posting highlights of the existing mazes on our Instagram over the next few days!
Picture
We really enjoyed Saw, the visuals were quite stunning!
Picture
The other new maze for 2023 was The Conjuring, this reminded us a LOT of the Conjuring maze that was at the WB event a few years back, which makes sense.
Picture
We absolutely loved this maze, so awesomely creepy with some tremendous effects.
Picture
Picture
While not technically a new maze, we did not get a chance to experience Truth or Dare last year, and based on the videos we saw from last year, this years maze is much improved. We absolutely loved it.
Picture

Picture
As far as returning mazes are concerned, Vault 666 has received yet another story change, and it's easily the best incarnation of this maze yet. If you'll remember, when the maze first started it was some kind of animal hybrid theme. The maze now features little resemblance in story to the original. So much so, we're shocked they haven't changed the name.
Picture
Condemned House Party was back from Scream Break and was just as much fun. Although we missed the party going on outside of the maze itself. Not sure why they didn't bring all that back.
Picture
Willoughby's Resurrected was back and received some nice upgrades inside the maze, which was great to see.
Picture
Picture
Sewer of Souls was also back and gave me my first, and so far only scare of the 2023 Haunt Season. So thank you!

Picture
Aftermath 2 also got some great upgrades, and far less soldiers telling you to "go go go". Which isn't scary. Still, we'd love to see the neon lights of the nearby Dead Zone scare zone come into the maze to give it new life.

Let's check out some of the scare zones, which are, in our opinion, the best in the business.
Picture
Nightmares is one of our favorite scare zones at any event
Picture
Picture
Picture
We also got to see our dear Lorraine Lurane
Picture
The Dead Zone mini scare zone/walk-through was back, and was full of monsters!
Picture
The unnecessary scare zone heading up the hill is gone, but the lighting has remained. We love this choice. Better to use the talent to fill the other areas vs only having 1 or 2 actors here.
Picture
The newest scare zone at the front of the park was also back, we love this area so much!
Picture
Picture
And of course, City Under Siege is back, and is definitely using the entire area this year, which is fantastic!

Picture
Definitely the most popular scare zone at the park

There are two additional scare zones:
  • Terrortory Twisted - I'll be honest, we kind of forgot it even exited. Not sure how many monsters were in this area, but I'm almost thinking this area is not needed.
  • CarnivHell - Just like last year, we aren't sure why this is off to the side in Bugs Bunny World and not on the main walkway. Which means most people don't know it's there. We did walk through this one, and it's absolutely fantastic, but it needs to be out where people are.
    • That said, if they are going to keep this in Bugs Bunny World, they should have a couple of the rides running (without people) to give it that creepy carnival feel and creepy lighting.

Picture
We'll leave you a look at some Fright Fest merchandise, which has been upgraded this year!
Picture
That said, we'd really love some Magic Mountain specific merchandise.
Picture
Picture
Picture
Just putting it out there, since our dear Innocence has now retired from Fright Fest, we'd be all over a Fright Fest shirt featuring that character.
Picture
Some WB merchandise as well, which isn't surprising. Could we possibly see some other WB horror franchises come to Fright Fest in future years?

That's going to wrap it up for our review of Fright Fest 2023! We will definitely be back for more spooky fun before the end of the month.

Six Flags Magic Mountain Update - Viva La Fiesta, Park Improvements, Ride SPeculation - May 23, 2023

It's been awhile since our last full park update from Six Flags Magic Mountain. Since there is nothing under construction at the moment, there really hasn't been much to report on. Fortunately, with the plethora of food festivals and other events the park is holding this year, we're able to bring you some pictures of Viva La Fiesta which is going on at the park select days right now.

In addition, there are a couple of park improvement projects going on and I've got some speculation on what I think the next attraction at the park is going to be.

Picture
Despite all the buses, it was a quite enjoyable visit to the park.
Picture
Picture
Viva La Fiesta has taken over the park entry area and other areas of the park.
Picture
Picture
Lots of great photo ops around Six Flags Plaza.
Picture
Picture
It was a beautiful spring day at the park.
Picture
And the park itself is looking fantastic!
Picture
Picture
More photo ops in Full Throttle Plaza.
Picture
Picture
I'm assuming a tribute to Latin singers? I apologize, other than Selena I don't know who the others are.
Picture
The DJ Booth from Scream Break is still here for Viva La Fiesta.
Picture
Moving over to DC Universe really quick, it looks like they still have some work to do on the dome over the DC Store. I had wondered if they finished it and had to go back and fix something, but nope, even our January update it wasn't done.
Picture
Over in the Boardwalk, they're still working on same games in the area.
Picture
Picture
Still hoping that one day they'll open up this area a bit more so you can see the attractions on the other side of the games.
Picture
Speaking of attractions on the other side of the games (see what I did there?). Next time you ride Wonder Woman, take a look at where the Tidal Wave turnaround used to be. There is definitely some work being done, or that has been done. There are also a couple of small earth movers over there.
Picture
The park definitely needs more than 2 water rides, neither of which were open during my visit. I think the next attraction for the park will be a Mack Powersplash like Aquaman at SFOT and/or a Splash Battle similar to Penguin at SFDK. Yes, there is room for both.
Picture
In fact, I'm going to speculate even further than the parks priority will (and should) be water attractions at both SFMM and Hurricane Harbor for the next 2-3 years. But we'll see! We're going to have a video in a few weeks outlining what we think is coming for all SF parks over the next few years. Stay tuned!
Picture
Somebody on Twitter mentioned that Justice League has ditched the 3D, I was hoping to ride but it was closed. I wonder if it's closed to switch to 2D?
Picture
Over in The Underground, we've got more Viva La Fiesta food and decorations.
Picture
I mentioned on Twitter that they should retheme this entire area to Viva La Fiesta and SFMM actually liked the tweet. Hmm. =)
Picture
Some of the food available and the prices. Not too bad.
Picture
Picture
Picture
Moving up towards Tatsu, they are planting an entire row of trees heading up the hill. So many trees have needed to be removed from this area the past few years, it's nice that they are bringing some back.
Picture
Roaring Rapids is STILL closed, but we've been told the ride is coming back in 2023. Hopefully soon before the hot summer months.
Picture
During a coaster event a few weeks back, the question came up about the Sky Tower, which led to some speculation that the park is looking to bring it back. We've asked at least half-a-dozen times over the years and we always get the same answer. No. It's too cost prohibitive. Don't get your hopes up, but if we're wrong we'll admit it. =)
Picture
Revolution is currently running 1 train due to refurb, really would love it if they'd add a 3rd train to the fleet so this popular coaster could always run at least 2.
