This past weekend we FINALLY made it out to Knott's Berry Farm to check out this years Ghost Town Alive. Oddly enough for Fathers Day the park was pleasantly empty which meant a fun day for us and the awesome characters of Ghost Town.

Red, White and Brews the perfect summer kick-off

Over Memorial Weekend California's Great America kicked off their all new Craft Beer festival "Red, White and Brews". This seems like it's a pilot for the rest of the chain and if it is, you are all going to have some amazing times drinking amazing beers at Cedar Fair parks in the very near future.

For a first year event it went off amazing.

Welcome to California's Great America on a beautiful late-spring day.

These chairs are empty now, they won't be for long. =)
Picture
A little introduction to Red, White and Brews from the park. Just to let you know what to expect.
Picture
As with other events in the chain, the tasting card is your absolute best bet.
Picture
All of the food and beer is in the area around Patriot, which makes it really nice to just sit and enjoy for awhile.

The booths match perfectly and are very inviting

Lots of music and fun as well including Dueling Pianos
Picture
One of these things is not like the other. =)
Picture
The San Jose Brew Bike is also there and is a lot of fun. Although Kristi may have just liked taking pics of the driver. =)

Some of the food.
For a first year event Red, White and Brews was amazing. We can only see it going up from here and wouldn't be surprised at all to see it expanded to more dates next year.

Just a couple of quick notes from the rest of the park.

Berserker was down.
Picture
Hope this isn't a sign of bad things ahead. Far too few of these left.
Picture
We finally rode Patriot and it was awesome!!
Picture
Last but not least, not a huge fan of "Coaster" shirts, but love this one. Also comes in black. May have to grab one on our next visit.

Saturday we were invited out to check out the opening day of Knott's Soak City and after years of trying to get to this waterpark we finally were able to visit. And what an amazing time to visit as the park has opened 7 all new slides this season.

We'll also head over to the other side of Beach Blvd to see what's going on at the farm.

Another look at The Wedge

They've also got a couple of really awesome looking kids play area's

Don't try this without a waterproof camera ... =)

Overall we really enjoyed our visit to Soak City. It got really crowded later in the day as it was in the 90's in Buena Park. They have a LOT of nice area's to set up your blankets and towels for a nice day in the park, but we suggest getting there early.

We took a quick detour to Knott's
Picture
We were able to confirm that the Calico Soda is now available all year at both Judge Roy Beans and the Calico Saloon. It's amazing.

Boomerang is completely gone

Totally gone

Extremely gone

The new BBQ restaurant is coming along nicely

Alright, that's going to wrap it up for this update, we'll be back in a few weeks for the kick-off of Ghost Town Alive. We can't wait!!

Last weekend was the kick-off of the 2017 Boysenberry Festival at Knott's Berry Farm. The expanded event this year has a lot of new boysenberry treats to try out as well as a lot of returning favorites.

This event keeps getting better and better every year.

Welcome to the 2017 Boysenberry Festival
Picture
Most of the great food is located in Ghost Town, which means lots more people enjoying the awesomeness that is Ghost Town than usual.

Catawampus won a blue ribbon!!

Moo

Let's look at some of the food.

One of the new treats this year is Boysenberry Pizza. We have to be honest, we weren't sure what to expect from this, but it was SO good. Lots of things on this that you wouldn't think would work but they all totally do. Not sure if we could eat an entire pizza, but a slice is great.
Picture
Boysenberry Fry Bread. Another unexpected treat. Not a huge fan of Nutella but this really was great. Be sure to grab a lot of napkins though.
Picture
Boysenberry Corn Dog. Think more of a pancake than corn dog. Just a subtle taste of boysenberry but very tasty.
Picture
Boysenberry Ravioli. One of those things that once again you wouldn't think works, but it really does. Again, not sure if we could eat a full plate of it, but a few is great.

While eating these we came up with a couple of ideas for next year:
  • Deep Fried Boysenberry Ravioli
  • Boysenberry Ravioli filled with Short Ribs
Picture
Speaking of the Short Ribs. One of our favorites from last year is back and was great again.
Picture
Another of our favorites the Boysenberry Panna Cotta. So tasty.
Picture
And of course, what would the Boysenberry Festival be without the Fun Bun?
Picture
Snoopy's Boysenberry Jam-Boree!!
Picture
Spring has sprung!!
Picture

We also got to try out the new VR Showdown in Ghost Town and we all had a blast.
Picture
Great waiting area
Picture
Picture
At only $6 per game it's well worth it.
Picture

How about a look at Sol Spin which looks to be almost done.
Picture
Picture
Well played Knott's ... well played.
Picture

Knott's also installed some metal detectors last week. They look as good as they can, it's a part of our every day life now so we might as well get used to it.
Picture
Picture

Lastly, a look at the new slides at Soak City.
Picture
We'll be heading back to Knott's this weekend to try some more Boysenberry goodness so expect a report on more of the great food next week.

It's always great when a classic coaster gets a new lease on life, and this year is no exception as Vortex at California's Great America has received a new lease on life this year with all new floorless trains, a great new paint job and a general freshening up of the front of the park.
The next few years are going to be very exciting for California's Great America and we can't wait to see what the future holds.
