JACKSON, NJ — August 13, 2014 — Six Flags Great Adventure, home to twelve innovative and exciting coasters, commemorates National Roller Coaster Day August 16 with a thrilling lineup of roller coaster special events, exclusive ride times and social media announcements.

The day kicks off with exclusive ride time on the record-breaking Kingda Ka, the world’s tallest and fastest coaster, plus a bonus of the brand new Zumanjaro: Drop of Doom, the world’s tallest and fastest drop ride, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. All guests are welcome with valid theme park admission or Season Pass.

All visitors are encouraged to wear their favorite Great Adventure coaster shirt to win prizes such as free tickets, Season Passes and coaster memorabilia from the “Six Flags Prize Patrol.” In addition, the Prize Patrol will make surprise visits to all of the coasters throughout the day and offer double rides to entire trains of lucky guests.

Guests can also celebrate National Roller Coaster Day with interactive scavenger hunts and competitions on Twitter and Instagram. The hashtag #sfcoasters will be used for Twitter fans to connect with people enjoying the event at all Six Flags locations.

Saturday August 16

August 16 is National Roller Coaster Day, and with 19 thrilling coasters, we have lots of ways for you to celebrate. You can experience the extreme on X2, fly at the speed of fear on Tatsu, or brave the largest looping coaster, Full Throttle. This will also be the last day to ride our legendary wooden coaster, Colossus. Don't miss your chance to be one of the final riders on the King of Wooden Coasters.

Everybody who rides Colossus on August 16 will get a special Colossus Commemorative Button!!! 

Sunday August 17

Flash your 2014 Season Pass to be the last to ride Colossus with an exclusive ride time on Sunday, August 17. The king of wooden coasters ends its 36-year reign to the general public on August 16, but as a Pass Holder, you'll get one extra time to ride! Upon opening in 1978, Colossus was the tallest and fastest wooden coaster in the world, and the first to feature two drops over 100 feet tall. It takes up over ten acres of land, with over 4,325 feet of drops and curves. Stay tuned for future announcements.

FYI, Colossus may be closing early for an after-hours Employee event as they will be the last to ride Colossus, as it should be.

UNIVERSAL CITY, CA (August 11, 2014) – Universal Pictures’ Academy Award®-winning and genre-defining film, An American Werewolf in London, written and directed by John Landis, will be unleashed upon guests at Universal Studios Hollywood in an all-new “Halloween Horror Nights” maze beginning Friday, September 19, 2014.  The experience will recreate legendary scenes from the cult favorite using gruesomely convincing props, chillingly authentic music and mind-blowing special effects that will re-awaken the terrorizing shape shifting creature with superhuman strength:  the Werewolf.

Guests will begin their horrifying journey as they enter “The Slaughtered Lamb,” the English countryside pub movie fans will instantly recognize, and experience first-hand what the tavern patrons in the film meant when they cautioned, “Stay on the road, keep clear of the Moors and beware the moon.” After stumbling upon the overgrown wasteland known as the “Moors,” maze-goers will be forced to traverse through dense fog amidst sounds of savage growls and unknown peril ahead.

Along with “The Slaughtered Lamb” pub and the Yorkshire Moors, guests will recognize other memorable scenes and characters from the film – including the London Underground and gun-wielding demon soldiers. The famous “transformation scene” that inspired the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences to create an Oscar® for achievement in makeup will also be featured in the remarkable maze experience.

Colossus debuted on June 29, 1978 and was at the time the tallest and fastest wooden coaster in the world. Designed by Doug Bernards, the price-tag for the ride was a whopping $7 million (and this is in 1978 dollars). 

Over the years, the ride went through a few modifications 

• 1979 when the infamous "Speed Hill" was changed 
• 1987 Changeover from the original Philadelphia Toboggan Company (PTC) trains to the current Morgan
• 1991 The rides "camelback" hills were replaced by the brake run that is there today 
  

Many people may not remember it, but Colossus used to "race" and the tracks are nearly identical other than their exits from their respective stations.

• Top Speed 62mph
• Duration 2 minutes 30 seconds

Some of the things Colossus is most famous for are it's appearances in media, namely television and the movies.

Becky Taylor: The first 3 pictures below are from my younger daughters 9th birthday and the last 3 are from my older daughters 9th birthday, When we went for my older daughters birthday (2009), it was both daughters first time on Colossus. They're both die hard roller coaster fans now of course.

Nicholas Laschkewitsch (Great American Thrills): I first visited SFMM for my 13th birthday in April of 2007. I had wanted to ride Colossus for the longest time, and finally had the chance to. I rode it almost at the exact minute I turned 13 (I think it happened while riding, actually) and while going up the lift-hill my cousin Taylor gave me a little gift: some Disneyland maps - LOL. I was very happy, but had to quickly put them in my pocket as we had just reached the top of the lift. I will really miss Colossus and hope it lives on in some form or another! #FarewellColossus

Billy D'Anjou: I was a late bloomer in finally getting around to riding Colossus, as in riding the coaster in its final years. My most memorable experience riding it was this past Spring Break when they were running the coaster backwards for a limited time. We nicknamed the coaster "sussoloC" to go along with the already unofficially named "namtaB." I found the backwards-running Colossus to be quite intense and had several moments catch me by surprise. We rode in the lead car (which would actually be the very last row) so coming off those drops gave us a surprising amount of airtime. I wrapped up my Socal trip making my final ride being Colossus "sussoloC." What made it also memorable was the fact that the ride still remained pretty smooth over the years, in contrast to riding Apocalypse on the same visit. It seems like Colossus aged better due to the type of wood used, like it was meant to last.

Aiden Moreno (The Coaster Guru): I went to Magic Mountain for my first time back in 2006. Back then, I was only 7, so big coasters were pretty daunting to me. The only other coaster in the world I had been on was Revolution at the same park, Colossus looked INSANE to me. My parents really wanted to go on it as they had ridden it as children. As we stood in line, I was sooo freaked out. Revolution was OK, but it really didn't convince me coasters were all that great. As our train pulled in, I was practically crying, but my parents told me to get on anyway. Now, I am so glad they did, Colossus' massive (as a little child) lift hill and first drop, and the surprising spit of weightlessness on the air time hill, made Colossus one of the most memorable experiences in my life. After riding Colossus again, I was finally willing to take on the rest of Magic Mountain.

Jodi Malone: Last year my husband & I celebrated our 25th Anniversary by renewing our vows on Colossus. Magic Mtn was our first date!

Clifford Lake (one of the Colossus Marathon riders): Oh my, well, I could have been a contender...let me put some stuff in (I don't want a prize though, I do stuff like this for the pure FUN)......Time for the story, I am semi coherent now, and hope this post will answer a ton of questions. 
The marathon was awesome, Six Flags Magic Mountain. Totally ROCKED their game with this stunt. I am blessed that they chose me to participate. So, it's no secret I was eliminated, a technicality took me out, but, a technicality put me back on the coaster. There were some other friends of mine that were picked, but, for an odd reason. They weren't there. My buddy Caesar was though, and we teamed up. Of the 24 riders, some were cool, some were complete buttheads and we couldn't wait for them to get the boot. The awesome people at Magic Mountain had private pools going on about who they thought would make it. I was one. The morning started with Fox 11 L.A cheering us on, after a few hours, people were dropping like flies. Each time we made a lap. I would make up a song about the number we were on. I was keeping track. Magic Mountain was in charge of keeping track of that and how long break time was so we could pee and stuff. The rhythm started flowing. And all was cool for the first 10 hours. I was keeping track of the laps and the Magic Mountain people kept official time for pee time. Shift change came around and the new official counter came around and seemed a little confused on duties. she didn't know the lap count but, had the stop watch in hand. on the dinner break, like all, strict 15 minutes, the routine continued. do your shit and get back. Some of the riders claim she called too soon and some said I missed it by 5 to 30 seconds. Who cares, the fact was she said I'm axed along with three people behind me. Well, rules are rules and even the vice president of the park Neil, was proud of my sportsmanship to accept the defeat without repercussion. Truly, I was pissed, I knew I made it in time but, Screw it. I instantly became an allowed supporter. each contestant was allowed a supporter at any time. And they could ride, just not win. So I rode, and ran with the pack until it came down to the final 6. I was Caesar's supporter. I am so proud of the 6 way tie on this contest. I have a group of friends (6) that will forever remember this.Many MANY MANY people asked why we were doing this. Simple answer.... WHY NOT?

Gregg Condon (Park Journey): I figured I should share my own personal memory. Believe it or not, up until about the age of 10, I was deathly afraid of Roller Coasters. I mean, wouldn't even ride Space Mountain at Disneyland afraid of coasters. I had ridden Knott's Corkscrew in about 1983 but that was the only "big coaster" I had ridden. 
In 1985 I went to Magic Mountain with my cousin Kevin. This was back in the day when parents felt fine about dropping off their 10 and 12 year old sons at Magic Mountain for a full 12 hours and didn't have a worry about them. Boy did our kids miss out. We spent most of the day riding things like the Swiss Twist (RIP), Log Jammer (RIP), Reactor (RIP) and Sarajevo Bobsleds (RIP). About mid-afternoon we decided to FINALLY give Colossus a try. At the time it was the biggest coaster we'd ever seen, and was much more intimidating to a 10 year-old in 1985 than it would be to a 10 year-old in 2014. When we got off the ride we were both pretty pale with a feeling of "What was that", but also "how awesome was that". It was the first time I'd felt the fear, exhilaration and the fun you could have on a coaster. And from that day on I was hooked. 

Here's my son and I on Colossus this past June. It's been such a thrill to experience the closing of one of my favorite rides with my kids. 

Over the past couple of months, the park has been having events celebrating Colossus as well as some great photo ops (seen below). We aren't sure of the plans for this weekend yet, but as soon as we get them from the park we'll be sure to pass it along.

ORLANDO, Fla., UNIVERSAL CITY, Ca., (August 7, 2014) — Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort breathe new life into history’s most notorious vampire, Vlad Tepes, the real life 13th century ruler and inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula in a terrifying new “Halloween Horror Nights” maze, “Dracula Untold: Reign of Blood. ” Beginning, Friday, September 19, 2014, guests can feast on this immersive preview of Universal Pictures’ upcoming epic action-adventure Dracula Untold.  Starring Luke Evans, the origin story of the man who became Dracula arrives in theaters on October 17.

Before we get started, the park provided us with some great Scary Farm B-Roll. It even features our very own CoasterMatt and his lovely wife. Can you find them? 

After a 2 1/2 hour drive we found ourselves in a familiar place, back at Knott's ready to kick off another year of Scary Farm. 

By the time we got inside the park at about 5:45, the line-up to get inside the "Ghoul Time Theater" was filled with anxious Haunt fans. I'd be hard pressed to find another annual event that has as many passionate fans as Knott's Scary Farm. 

Once inside the stage was set and the fog started rolling in. 

With Scary Farm music coming through the speakers, Monsters roaming the theater and the overall jubilation of the audience, Haunt was definitely in the air. And it was awesome. 

The event kicked off with the one and only Jeff Tucker escorting out the one and only Elvira as she announced her return to Haunt, and she will be at the event every night of the run this year. 

After Elvira's announcement, Jeff welcomed four very special people who are no strangers to Haunt fans. Laura Hanneman (Knott's Scary Farm Creative Director), Timothy "Gus" Krueger (Design Specialist), Daniel Miller (Design Specialist) and Brooke Walters (Design Supervisor) to talk about the mazes. 

WHAT'S IN THE BOX!!!! 

All week, the Knott's Scary Farm Facebook Page had been teasing a "Box" and asking, what could possibly be in the box. Hopefully it wouldn't be what Brad Pitt found in the box in the movie Se7en (spoiler alert). 

What was in the box was the annoucement of an all-new "Scary Farm Season Pass". This is only available to current Knott's Berry Farm Season Passholders and is only $65. There are no blackout days and you can come to Haunt every night of the run if you'd like. 

You can purchase them here, but you'd better hurry. They are limited and will sell out quickly. 

After all of the announcements, in typical Knott's fashion, an amazing reception was held for the media. 

Interviews were available with Haunt Designers and Elvira but since we don't really have that capability we just enjoyed the evening, the food and hanging out with some great friends. 
I guess  we should eventually get on that bandwagon. =)

The veil between the living and the dead is severed when Houdini’s ghost materializes during a séance and ushers a host of demonic illusions to play tricks on anyone who intrudes on his theatre. Years have passed since the blue fairy denied him his final wish, but Pinocchio has returned with an army of murderous marionettes intent on killing his former masters. The purpose of his killing spree – human flesh to cover his twisted wooden body. Revenge comes with no strings attached.

Many years ago, The Green Witch uncovered a wicked source of power in the depths of the Calico Mine, and now she’s hell-bent on using this mysterious energy to capture and corrupt all who dare enter! With newly enhanced show scenes, lighting, and special effects, this not-too-scary mine train adventure is perfect Halloween fun.

This year Trapped returns with more rooms, more intricate puzzles and a shocking finale more extreme than any experience ever presented at Knott’s Scary Farm. You become part of the terror and are forced to face your darkest fears, confront your inner terrors and descend into the madness of a maze with no way out. Trapped is not for the squeamish as the challenges are darker and more terrifying than any that have come before. 

Reservations and an additional fee are required for this exclusive maze, which requires guests to interact with their surroundings and is not recommended for guests under 18 years old. Admission is $60.00 for groups of up to six (plus applicable taxes and fees) and can be purchased online [embed link] or at the Boardwalk Ballroom on the night of event, while supplies last. Separate Knott's Scary Farm admission is required and not included with the purchase of Trapped.

Beware the cursed swamps of New Orleans, where mindless zombies trudge through the murky bogs in search of bloody sacrifices and demons use Voodoo curses to possess innocent souls. Choose your path carefully children, for one wrong turn and you will be hexed forever.

This twisted tooth fairy steals more than just baby teeth as he drags his victims out their bedroom window and into a world of deranged dentistry. Unbelievable special effects include a blackout room through which guests must feel their way out, a disorienting x-ray strobe light room, and a final encounter with the massive tooth fairy, himself. Say aahhh.

Ghost Town Streets is the original and still most terrifying scare zone that started it all. Bands of half-human, half-animal monsters prowl the streets and inhabit the fog. Beware the notoriously startling sliders, who lunge from in every fog-filled corner of the land.

Fiesta De Los Muertos fuses dance music, colorful costumes, and larger than life stilt walkers in a dance party scare zone with even more characters than last year. It’s the ultimate late night celebration of Dia de los Muertos.

The Knott’s Boardwalk is taken over by “CarnEVIL,” where the freak show is the main event and clowns crave your undying attention.

Just beyond the streets of Ghost Town lies the mysterious outcropping known as Gypsy Camp, where fortune tellers prognosticate future terrors, and ravenous werewolves howl in the light of the moon.

One of the biggest and most pleasant surprises of the night was the announcement of Special Ops: Infected. Everybody was kind of puzzled why there wasn't a scare zone in Camp Snoopy but instead we get to shoot Zombies!! Really can't wait for this one. Should be awesome. 

Survive the Zombie Apocalypse in an All-Out War

NEW for 2014 - This ambitious new attraction is the first of its kind in North America and will challenge guests to exterminate the infestation of zombies who threaten mankind’s existence. Armed with specially designed laser guns, brave groups of Knott’s Scary Farm guests will embark on missions, led by their Squad Leader – a loud mouthed, take-no-prisoners commander charged with turning guests into soldiers. Groups must work together to fend off zombies and complete various missions before time runs out. If zombies drag their bodies too close, the un-infected’s guns temporarily deactivate, compromising the safety of the entire team. Soldiers with the deadliest aim will be celebrated with a tally of the number of zombies killed on a display board for other survivors to see each night in base camp. 

Special Ops: Infected seamlessly integrates interactive gaming technology with an immersive mountainous landscape, delivering a breakthrough interactive haunted experience that is as terrifying as it is challenging. Missions will take guests through a variety of wilderness terrains, including the unpredictable barrel bridges across the rushing river, through the dark caverns, and through mysterious backwoods. Six acres of the beloved theme park is now home to mutinous, scream-inducing zombies, and the time has come for a harrowing Special Ops survival mission.

Back by overwhelming demand for 2014 is Elvira – the legendary Mistress of the Dark. Elvira will headline her all new show "Elvira’s Big Top", in the 1,800 seat Charles M. Schultz Theatre twice nightly for the entire run of Knott’s Scary Farm. In her new show, Elvira becomes the Ring-Mistress of the Park as she hosts a circus carnival of macabre freaks and sinister side show acts. The show also features explosive dance performances by The Academy of Villains, who return to the stage in 2014 fresh off their appearance on Fox’s "So You Think You Can Dance?"

ELVIRA’S BOO-TIQUE & SIGNING EVENT

In honor of Elvira’s return to Knott’s Scary Farm, the Ride Warriors merchandise shop will temporarily become Elvira’s Boo-tique, where fans can purchase stylish apparel and sinfully fun products featuring and inspired by the Legendary Mistress of the Dark. Each night, a limited number of guests who spend at least $50 at Elvira’s Boo-tique during Knott’s Scary Farm will get a chance to meet Elvira between performances of "Elvira’s Big Top" and collect her signature on one of the purchased items. Knott’s Scary Farm is the only place Elvira can be seen this Halloween season, and Elvira’s Boo-tique offers fans a once in a lifetime meet and greet opportunity!

A live stage show in Calico Square that irreverently looks back at the year's pop culture with some killer comedy. Notorious for its special effects and high-flying stunts, The Hanging® is a no-holds-barred assault on pop culture’s most infamous moments of the past year. A must see parody!
