With past event names like Diner Dead, Bloody Mary, Condemned and Horror Hall, you kind of can get an idea what you can expect in "Fear The Mark". 

Unlike other events you get to possibly experience four different "realms" of terror. 

Each maze starts off the same, with an amazing host getting you ready for what lies inside. 

Soon you will be sorted into your realm and receive your mark. From there you will venture into one of the four realms: Tormentum, Rebus, Infernal and Arcane. 

Each one offers something truly unique and different while at the same time sharing the same space at different area's. The way it's laid out simply "works" and works well. 

The talent in the maze is incredible from start to finish, it's no wonder so many people come back to "scare" at this event every year. It's a well oiled machine in every way. 

Arcane: 
This was our first realm, one where the monsters play tricks on you. Apparently our group wasn't very good at finding our way out more than once and we sure paid dearly for it. 

Rebus: 
This was the "fun" maze and if you only have time to go through 1 realm and you are a coaster enthusiast, we highly recommend this one. Yes you can have your realm "chosen" for you, but you can also request one. You'll know where to do that. We also each got separated in this realm and a friend of mine sent me through a very narrow pathway. I had to suck in my gut but it was awesome. 

Infernal: 
This one also had some "alone" moments involved and some more physical elements that some may want to avoid if you are unable to do crawling, but it was amazing. 

Tormentum (thanks Stephanie for your thoughts on this realm): 
This one was a bit more gory than some of the other realms (as the name might tell you) and some area's where you have to crawl under some barbed wire. 

Overall we had a simply awesome time at Sinister Pointe and we can't wait to see what your twisted minds come up with for next year.

Last year when this Haunt debuted it was universally praised not for gore or big time in your face "extreme" haunt, but for just being a fun Haunted House. 

Unfortunately we didn't make it last year to do a full review but this was at the top of our list of "must visits" for 2016. And we're so glad we were able to experience it. 

If you're looking for a fun "not too scary, not at all gory, not at all gonna freaking shock you with a taser" event, this is the one you should check out. We guarantee you'll have a lot of fun at Motel 6 Feet Under.

We did get invited to take pictures inside the maze (and a maze it is) but we were afraid that we'd spoil the fun if we took too many pictures. 

The maze starts off in an old looking "motel lobby" where there are some amazing effects and one that was very cool (that again, we won't spoil). 

They let people in VERY small groups (our group of 4 was alone the entire time and we never saw anybody else in the maze). As you enter you are greeted by a bellhop where you are led into the event. And where you go into the first room is not where you come out. 

As you venture into Motel 6 Feet under you are going to encounter ghouls of many sorts, dead ends, moving walls and all sorts of crazy things that make this a truly unique haunt. 

This is an event that would be a great "starter" maze, you aren't going to get shocked or abused in any way, what you are going to have is an amazing time experiencing all of the effects and illusions that are so well done. 

The event is located just on the other side of the 5 Freeway from Disneyland (if you've run the Disneyland Half Marathon you've run by the location). There is PLENTY of free street parking but we suggest going early as it does get busy. 

With Halloween weekend coming up this event (and pretty much EVERY event) is going to be busy.

So Motel 6 Feet Under has thought ahead and will actually be open the weekend AFTER Halloween as well. So if you're all booked up this weekend, don't worry, you still have another weekend to experience this great event.

Here is where all the magic happens 

There are so many different techniques in use. Some set characters get the same makeup design every night. 

Prosthetic's are a big part of some designs as well. 

Everybody in this room absolutely loves what they do and is so good at it. They all couldn't have been more welcoming to me and allowing me to get pictures of their process.

So part of the process was me getting made up and then scaring in Aftermath. 

My first stop was Wardrobe where the amazing Kevin made me up in awesome attire and then went to town with some blood and scissors. How fun!! 

A before shot, looks kind of silly doing "Zombie Face" without the Zombie Makeup. 

And then it was off to over an hour of makeup and it was SO fun. The amazing Alanna Suen did such an amazing job as you'll see in the time-lapse below. ​

A few words I heard were "perfect canvas" and "great model". I can assure you that's the first and last time I'll ever hear that. 

But it was awesome that she didn't have any restrictions and could just show off her amazing talent. And amazing talent it is.

February 8, 2001 - A brand new Disney theme park opens in Southern California. We've seen it being constructed in the former parking lot for years. The intamin roller coaster. The signature mountain that looks like the head of a bear. We've heard about the designer restaurants from Robert Mondavi and Wolfgang Puck. Themes around Soap Opera's and Parades that didn't feature Disney Characters. This was going to be the anti-Disney Disney park. Full of new experiences, more shows and alcohol. 

And then nobody showed up ... and Disney panicked. 

After the initial failure of DCA 1.0 there were a couple of different ways Disney could have gone. The one direction we're going to talk about below, and then the direction that Disney eventually took. 

So first let's start off with the direction Disney took: 

Almost immediately they started shutting restaurants like Wolfgang Puck and Robert Mondavi, but in addition to that they also started cutting hours. Most days DCA would close at 6pm. So it's really no surprise that restaurants that are targeted to adults wouldn't do well if people couldn't actually have dinner there. 

In addition to shutting restaurants that were targeted to adults they immediately started adding Disney characters to the park. Meet and greets, quickly put together parades and shows and bringing back the Electrical Parade. 

The list of closures during the first year of DCA included Superstar Limo (no surprise), Soap Opera Bistro, Eureka Parade, Steps in Time, Lights Camera Chaos, Vineyard Room by Robert Mondavi, Avalon Cove by Wolfgang Puck, and Maliburitos (seriously, did ANYBODY ever get a chance to eat here?)

What came in it's place were some cheap replacements (X-Games anybody), the Christmas show LuminAria and many others. 

Soon after the re-theme of DCA began with the addition of A Bugs Land in 2002, Tower of Terror in 2004, Monsters Inc in 2006 (retheme of Superstar Limo), Toy Story Midway mania in 2008 and then the conversion to DCA 2.0 starting in 2010 all the way to it's re-dedication in 2012. 

Through all of that, including a multi-billion dollar expansion and improvement, the attendance of Disney California Adventure went from 5 million in 2001 to about 9.5 million in 2015. 

But what if they could have kept the original design of DCA in 2001 and expanded using it's original intention of being a different kind of theme park ... 

So let's go back to 2001 ... instead of shuttering adult themed restaurants and closing the park early let's say DCA does indeed cuts their hours but does it in a different way. 

Now nobody is ever going to deny the original DCA was built "on the cheap". But on the same note I don't think anybody could deny DCA looked MUCH better at night than it did during the day. MUCH better. So let's say Disney capitalized on that. 

Instead of opening the park at 10am and closing at 5pm or 6pm every day and thus insuring the high-end restaurants would remain empty, let's say DCA opened at 3pm or 4pm every day and stayed open until 10pm or midnight every day. 

Stay with me here ... 

As was mentioned above, DCA was supposed to be different, it sold alcohol, brought in high-end brands and was generally made to cater to adults. Not just with food but with rides. 

When DCA opened there were only a handful of rides somebody under 40 inches could ride, and they weren't exactly thrilling (Sun Wheel, Carousel, Superstar Limo, Golden Zephyr). At the same time they had the first looping coaster at a west coast Disney park, an S&S Space Shot and other rides that were geared towards adults. 

And let me say, having drinks at the cove then riding Screamin' and then drinks and then Screamin', repeat, repeat, repeat is a LOT of fun. =) 

So instead of totally changing to become Disneyland 2.0, what if DCA became more of a true "pleasure island" theme park, the possibilities could have been endless. 

Sure, the eventual re-do of the front area of the park was somewhat inevitable. It was ugly and needed to be done. 

Tower of Terror would have eventually been added, but let's just imagine that instead of a rushed version to get an E-ticket into the park they actually built an amazing original version of it that rivaled it's counterparts in Florida and Tokyo. 

Superstar Limo was always never going to last. But instead of having to do a cheap overlay of a children's movie and bring in the Millionaire show what if they had built Rock N Roller Coaster with Red Hot Chili Peppers or No Doubt? 

Remember when they first started doing the Food and Wine events at DCA? That was the first time they had brought in a big chunk of DCA's original targeted audience. And the first year it was done very quickly. Imagine if they would have been able to continue to expand events and attractions geared towards adults instead of just Disneyfying the entire park? 

But by that time the writing was on the wall. Instead of them seeing the success of those events and being able to expand them, those at the very highest levels had already deemed that DCA needed "fixing" (it did) and the way they were going to do it was to make it like every other Disney theme park. 

Could you imagine now, instead of Cars Land that was built (as amazing as it is) if a more grown up land, say based on Marvel or Star Wars Land or even Avatar was built in it's place? 

Obviously none of us know what could have happened had Disney stuck with the DCA concept while in the meantime continuing to improve it. It's hard to tell if an actual "Pleasure Island" type theme park would have actually worked. But the possibilities would have been endless instead of shoehorning themselves into a limited California theme (which let's face it, no longer makes ANY sense). 

Imagine with the amount of AP's they have now how a true nighttime park would benefit them, and maybe even after spending all that money to "fix" DCA They wouldn't have to have DCA only Annual Passes.

Maybe one day Disney will give us a park that is different but actually invest the money in that park to make it successful from day one. Instead of being reactionary and adding cheap overlays and last minute shows they do it right the first time.

​But sadly it likely won't be in our lifetime.

There's another scene here that's so fantastic, so well done, so adult oriented that we've chosen to not include pictures of it here ... but it was acted out absolutely amazingly and is so much fun.

Final judgement

Are you perfect? Find out behind this curtain when you experience Gorlesque. 

Overall we had an amazingly fun time at Gorlesque. We got to experience the haunt first before going in and getting pictures, but it feels almost wrong to call this a "haunt". It's more of a walk-through theater experience which definitely makes it unique and something that a lot of smaller events are now going for. Some pull it off, some don't, Gorlesque does.

Once again the hottest ticket in town is for Delusion His Crimson Queen. I managed to obtain tickets during the limited pre-sale since I had signed up to be notified by email when they would go on sale. They nearly sold out before even going on sale to the general public. The initial run lasts until mid November but if they get an extension then the there is a great possibility that they will open up more dates and tickets. Delusion is unlike anything else. It is an interactive play of sorts where you play an important part of the story.

This year after having to take a year off revolves around the subject of vampires. I do not want to give away spoilers of any kind for those who have tickets or even those who don't in hopes they will extend the run. I give a round of applause to Jon Braver for this magnificent and compelling story. There are no I repeat no sparkly vampires. These vampires will burn in the sunlight. Also several characters names I really feel have come from other sources and are very familiar sounding yet bare no resemblance.

Our group was 10 and I felt was just right in size. Any bigger and I feel that we would not have had the experience we did. Plus it seemed that everyone for the most part including yours truly played their part. Sometimes you are brave enough to step up. Other times you will be picked. (At one point in the storyline no one wanted to do one thing so I stepped up and played my part taking one for our team.) I will be talking about it for a very long time to come.

I must say that you do need to lose yourself and your mindset and just have fun with it. There are stunts and effects that I had my mouth open wide at just staring at disbelief especially the ending. I do not want to give it away but this year there is an actual ending. The cast is beyond brilliant and the storyline easy to follow. I felt each character as they tried to come across to all of us.

The storyline is that we are adult children of Burke and Selene Sullivan. In fact our father Burke writes us a letter dated October 4, 1933. We are asked to come to this villa in search of answers regarding our mother Selene who supposedly perished in a tragic fire. We are half human half vampire children with supernatural powers.

I do not want to give away too much else. There are times where the entire group must work together (think escape room type scenario) but it is easy if there is cooperation. Also there is another point where I thought was so clever genius.

​I still wish I could capture what my eyes witnessed during the final scene. Way more than just a haunted house or even Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights. I personally can't stop raving since I am a huge vampire fan in particular to The Vampire Diaries and The Originals. This had some of that plus Vampire Academy, as well as Interview With The Vampire touches.

The mansion inside is huge so much so that at times I couldn't figure out if I was upstairs or down. There are multiple levels and this was the longest Delusion yet. I believe at or just around an hour. I think our group took a little over an hour because of certain things that needed to be solved or done in order to proceed. All in all nothing will compare to Delusion His Crimson Queen. I'm tempted if it gets extended to try to go again but we shall see.
