Colombian Adventures with Chris: Part Two

Picture
Today it's time to venture back to Colombia with Chris as his adventures continue at Parque del Cafe which of course means Montaña Rusa and Krater as well as a whole bunch of other random fun stuff for you to enjoy. Be sure your'e all caught up with "Colombian Adventures with Chris: Part One" first.  - Gregg

Viva Columbia was our chariot of the skies during our stay in Colombia, used it 3 times. This flight, I believe, was around $26usd.
Picture
After checking in, we had time (according to the website) to check out a medium sized coaster about 20 minutes out of town, so off we went!
Picture
So here’s our one and only picture of Karting Cross and it’s coaster, because the park was closed. The helpful guy at the front said that the restaurant is open, not the park. He’ll update the website, he told our taxi driver. It actually seemed like a cool place, and we had a free day coming up, so maybe we’ll give it another shot (long story short, it rained, we didn’t).
Picture
Since we paid for the taxi for the afternoon, our driver took us to a beautiful overlook above the city, from which you can see 3 states and a big slice of Coffee Country.
Picture
I don’t get too disappointed at missed credits, and I had no problem relaxing, having an awesome coffee, and taking in the view. We were at a lower elevation than Bogota, it was warmer, and we could finally breathe again.
Picture
We drove across this bridge. It’s the highest? tallest? …somethingest in Colombia.
Picture
The next day, after an hour and a half drive through the jungle…
Picture
We arrived at Parque del Cafe!
Picture
Where we got our next bit of unexpected news…apparently, Krater is closed! Oh No! And the Train! Damn!
Picture
Hooray, though! We were overly happy to be at this park. It’s one of the main attractions of the trip, and it was surreal to finally be there.
Picture
The park is mostly at the bottom of a hill, but is also on the hill, and the top. The entrance is actually at the top.
Picture
Most visitors opt to take the teleferico down to the bottom of the park, so we followed them down.
Picture
Looking back up
Picture
Half of the lower part of the park. Krater in the distance.
Picture
It’s hard to see, but there’s also a chairlift that takes you most of the way down the hill.
Picture
The teleferico drops you off in this traditional plaza, and from there you can begin to explore the large park.
Picture
The kids log flume, and the adult one in the distance.
Picture
Our first coaster of the day, Montaña Rusa! Many of you may recognize this one from Worlds of Fun. I don’t because I’m from California.
Picture
The excitement was on! In a way, this was like the ‘signature ride’ of the whole trip.
Picture
I took a bunch of pictures so I can share them with you.
Picture
Another angle
Picture
Same angle with some dude blocking the view.
Picture
After a couple rides on Montaña Rusa, we continued along in the park. For scale, you can make out the teleferico in the distance.
Picture
And now, a bunch of pictures of Krater:
Picture
By far, the most modern coaster in the Country.
Picture
I would say newest, but I think Spinning Coaster at Multiparque is newer.
Picture
Wait a minuteeeeeee…what’s that I see?
Picture
OMG it’s running! Miracles do happen!
Picture
And by running I mean testing with water dummies, and not open. I even tried the whole bribe method, which was almost going to work for about $30, but then he said I’d have to pay off the other 4 guys up there as well. So no.
Editors Note: Come on Chris, it was only $150 to ride a coaster? Enthusiast fail. ;)
Picture
This is a horse trail. Horse riding is a normal, non-uncharge attraction. But you can only do it once.
Picture
And here are a bunch of people on said horses, taking said ride. That is not a lottery spinner, it has something to do with coffee.
Picture
Heck yes!
Picture
By far, the most tame tower I’ve been on. But the locals loved it.
Picture
Here’s the larger flume, which absolutely drenches you, but I know what you’re thinking.
Picture
You’d rather look at this instead. At some point, they installed a 2nd train.
Picture
Random ‘We’re in Colombia’ scenery shot.
Picture
This was the main dining area of the park. Lots of choices.
Picture
This is what we ate, and it was delicious! (it’s not horse this time)
Picture
After lunch, we sort of relaxed and took in the park. Our driver insisted that we stay till 5, and we’re glad he did.
Picture
We caught the one “Show de Cafe” for the day. We had no idea what to expect, but it turned out to be a folklorico type show, educating us on the history of Coffee in Colombia, through dance. No photos during the show.
Picture
There was a large bamboo jungle, and we obviously walked through that.
Picture
Lots of bridges, and little covered paths. The park reminded me of the San Diego Wild Animal Park, but with rides instead of animals.
Picture
You can get totally lost in here and not really worry about it.
That's going to wrap it up for Part Two of Chris' amazing trip. We'll have Part Three up soon which includes much more from  Parque del Cafe and of course more Montaña Rusa including some awesome nerd shots for you to enjoy.

Thanks again to Chris for sending us these awesome pics. Be sure to let Chris know how much you appreciate him sharing his report.
