Today we're having a bit of fun and each sharing our Blue Sky plans for the next 5 years at Six Flags Magic Mountain. If you all enjoy these we'll do them for more parks in the future.

The plan is to have fun with these, speculate on what we think may be coming but also some out there ideas. Enjoy and share your thoughts.

RD and Matt will eventually be adding their predictions to this article so we'll be sure to re-post once we have theirs.

Keep in mind, these are only "predictions" and none of them are probably ever going to happen. =)

Update: We've received some GREAT reader predictions on our Facebook page, so we've decided to add them below. If you have any predictions, feel free to add them.

2016

Gregg:
I'm going to start off kind of safe with 2016 as the park just added Twisted Colossus this year. 2016 is the parks 45th anniversary so I think the park will be concentrating a little bit on history while restoring some classic attractions. Anybody thinking that the Sky Tower will be making a comeback in 2016 (or ever) needs to re-think things.
  • Revolution: Complete overhaul and new trains. This includes the station, complete repainting of the ride and trimming of the trees around the loop to get that amazing view from Six Flags Plaza back. While this has been on the "Wish list" for years I think this is the year it's actually going to happen.
  • Re-Theme of Cyclone Bay: This really is only one of a few area's of the park that hasn't gotten a re-theme/rehab in the most recent wave of great things the park has done around new rides. This really didn't start until DC Universe and obviously didn't happen when they did Terminator/ Apocalypse. So this entire back area is going to get a nice re-do along with ... Apocalypse: RMC Topper Track. This isn't going to be a full Iron Horse layover of this ride, and it doesn't need it. But it needs something and the park knows it. There is a LOT of left over wood left over from Twisted Colossus (and it's GOOD Douglas Fir wood) and some new wood is already being added to the ride. New Flat Ride: Whether it's a looper or some other kind of flat ride really doesn't matter. But it's been awhile since the park has received something new in this arena and I think along with the Cyclone Bay/Apocalypse re-do a new flat ride will end up in this area of the park.
Reader Predictions:
Chris: Revolution Refurb// Cyclone Bay Retheme + Apocalypse retrack
Lucio: New Flat Ride
A.J.: Refurbish Apocalypse and Revolution, retheme Cyclone Bay, and add 1-2 new flats

2017

Gregg:
2017 is going to be another "off" year as the park gears up for a huge 2018 (see below). While many will be expecting Justice League in the park for 2016 or 2017, I fully believe the ride will show up at Discovery Kingdom before it does at SFMM.
  • Ninja: Complete overhaul and new trains: There are already signs of new trees popping up around the ride. The ride did receive a new paint job a few years ago that is still holding up nicely so it wouldn't be as big of an overhaul as Revolution. New trains would be great to extend the life of the ride, but I wouldn't expect the long-rumored floorless trains.
  • Splash Battle: By the time 2017 rolls around it would have been 3 years since the last family ride was added and another 2 years for Tidal Wave which has been showing it's age for awhile now. Hopefully by this time the drought in CA will have been addressed and getting a new water ride approved won't be an issue. I'd anticipate this replacing Tidal Wave and the DC Universe being expanded via a new walkway from Green Lantern to Riddlers Revenge.
Reader Predictions:
Chris:
Movie District retheme/ Justice League: BFM in old Action Theater
Lucio: Family Coaster
A.J.: Remove Green Lantern and Tidal Wave for Justice League dark ride, Aquaman-themed Tsunami Soaker, and a connecting walkway

2018

Gregg:
2018 is going to be interesting as by this time it would be 3 years since the park added a new coaster. So it's time for some extreme Blue Sky plans.
  • B&M Wing-Rider: The park will add a new Wing Rider where the remaining Metro station is (Near the midway games). Like Full Throttle it will utilize both sides of "The Mountain" and have a twist element through the Full Throttle loop at the front of the park and will go around Superman and Gold Rusher which will necessitate a mid-course launch as well as the initial lift-hill. This will have more "near miss" moments and won't just be built on top of the hill like Tatsu. Think Ninja, but as a Wing-Rider.
  • Hurricane Harbor Water Coaster: In a surprise Double-Whammy, along with the new Wing Rider, the park announces an all new Water Coaster for Hurricane Harbor. It will be the longest water coaster in CA.
Reader Predictions:
Chris:
Hurricane Harbor addition + new coaster (Not a wing rider, something smaller... maybe another woodie?)
Lucio: Mega Loop
A.J.: New mid-sized coaster

2019

Gregg:
2019 the park will concentrate back on family attractions
  • Justice League: Battle For Metropolis: By this time the ride will be 4 years old in TX and St Louis and be rolled out to a few other parks (I'd expect Discovery Kingdom and Great Adventure by this point) so 2019 will be it's next major roll out. This ride will either be replacing Green Lantern (which will move to another park) and utilizing the nearby warehouses or taking over the theater area next to Riddler's Revenge since DC Universe expanded over in this area in 2017.
Reader Predictions:
Chris: General Improvements
Lucio: 3D Dark Ride
A.J.: Samurai Summit refurbishment

2020

Gregg:
Finally, the year coaster fans have been waiting for since, well, forever:
  • Gigacoaster: Either Mack or B&M will build a GigaCoaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain FINALLY giving the park an exciting non-inverting 300ft coaster they've needed since the boring Goliath debuted in 2001. The station will be near Apocalypse and will extend over Roaring Rapids, up to Viper and back.
Reader Predictions:
Chris: Samurai Summit refurb, new flats
Lucio: World's Largest SkyScreamer
A.J.: General improvements for SFMM, HydroMagnetic Rocket for SFHH
And that will lead us into 2021 and the parks 50th Anniversary. But that's going to be a totally separate article and a LONG time down the road.

My predictions...

2016 - new flat rides (Larson Super-Loop in old Deja-Vu area, Larson Flying Scooter in Looney Tunes area, and Tsunami Soaker/Aqua Twist)... Revolution refurbishment.
2017 - new family-friendly coaster (spinning coaster or Gravity Group wood coaster)... Hurricane Harbor water-slide expansion.
2018 - SkyScreamer ride... world's tallest or the 242ft version.
2019 - Justice League: Battle For Metropolis dark ride.
2020 - new coaster (either vertical lift coaster or Hurricane Harbor water coaster).

It appears that Six Flags is gearing up to take down Superman escape from Krypton and replace it with a new Superman is going to be in the exact same place however is going to be a full on roller coaster. The demo was already on YouTube and the coaster will go up like Superman escape from Krypton come back down in her you into the roller coaster that will send you backwards towards where Cyclone is or I should say apocalypse
