Six Flags Magic Mountain Update - November 20, 2024

After the big Six Flags press release last week detailing their $1 Billion investment in the parks over the next two years I decided to head up to the park last Friday to check out some of the off-season projects going on at the park. And there are a LOT of them.

In fact, I've got an email out to the parks PR department to see if we can get a list of the projects so we can make sure we're covering them adequately this off-season. Stay tuned.

The work even extends outside of the park. Let's get right to it!
Picture
The long-shuttered gift shop next to the 5 Freeway is getting some work done. Not sure if the shop is actually reopening or if this is just some refurb. It certainly doesn't look like it's being removed.

They're also doing a lot of work inside Hurricane Harbor. We saw them working on the family raft ride and others near the entrance a few weeks ago. Last week it was Tornado.

Inside the park, preparation is going on for Holiday in the Park.

As part of the $1 Billion announcement, one of the projects was a "first of it's kind in North America" coaster for SFMM. We aren't sure what it is yet.
Picture
Lots of talk about it being an Axis coaster, however Intamin did announce a new family coaster at IAAPA this week, so perhaps a family coaster with inversions is in the cards for the park?
Picture
More off-season work going on in the ScreamPunk area. The Colossus restrooms are no more. A welcome update and hopefully larger more accessible restrooms are coming.
Picture
We "think" Goliath is also getting a new paintjob this off-season. Our friends from Baynum Painting posted some pics the other day. But after thinking about it we aren't sure if it was Goliath or Titan at SFOT. Guess we'll find out soon. =)
Picture
For now, the Sandwich/Boba shop is staying.
Picture
More holiday in the park prep in Screampunk.
Picture
Got a bit of rain at the park during my visit. Always love visiting parks in the rain.
Picture
The Underground is getting ready for Holiday in the Park and the Holly Rock area. We did create a playlist for this area on Spotify and Apple Music a few years ago. It's a fun one. If there are any updates this year we'll be sure to update the playlists.

Superman: Escape from Krypton

Picture
Wanted to talk a bit about Superman: Escape from Krypton. As we all know, Kingda Ka is being removed from Six Flags Great Adventure. This would seem to indicate the chain is getting rid of low-capacity, high-maintenance, high-cost coasters. I honestly can't think of any coaster that fits that description more than Superman.
Picture
The coaster is now 27 years old and since the park shutdown in 2020, it has been closed much longer than it's been open.
Picture
That being said, the tower goes deep into the ground. VERY deep. The possibility remains that they could, unlike Kingda Ka, keep the tower for Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom while closing Superman.
Picture
Let's hope that as the first 100mph coaster in the world we do get some kind of advanced warning that the coaster is closing permanently and not have to rely on unconfirmed reports from theme park vloggers.

The Greatest Coasters Ever Built Mural

Picture
A lot of time small park improvements get missed, but we always love to highlight them. This happened a few months ago but with all of the Halloween stuff we didn't get around to covering it.
Picture
It's interesting what got it's own spot and what has to share with another coaster. Some make sense, like two members of the Justice League.
Picture
Or the two Premier coasters at the park.
Picture
And then just random pairings of two coasters that probably deserve their own spot.

And then the kiddie coaster gets it's own spot. Here are the rest of them.

Jokes aside, really do love seeing these infrastructure projects going on at the park. They aren't going to bring in people just to see them, but it goes a long way in improving the overall park experience.

As I was leaving the park I went into the Looney Tunes Super Store for the first time in years. I forgot this was even in here. Thanks for reading the update! We hope you enjoyed.
