Jupiter's Claim Preview at Universal Studios Hollywood

Today we were invited out to Universal Studios Hollywood to step foot in the newest portion of the Studio Tour, Jupiter's Claim from the upcoming movie NOPE! As you'll see in these pics, there is nothing temporary about this installation and from what we've seen from the trailers for NOPE this looks to be pretty accurate to the Jupiter's Claim from the film.

There also seems to be a lot of Easter Eggs from the film in the set, so we'll definitely have to come back and revisit some of these pictures after we see NOPE which if you didn't know, opens this Friday, as does this new addition to the Studio Tour.

Special thanks to Brian Walton for covering this incredible preview for us. It's very much appreciated!

ORLANDO, Fla. (July 14, 2022) – SeaWorld celebrates Shark Awareness Day today with the ultimate shark experience for guests of all ages offering shark interactions, education, conservation, and inspired thrills that can be enjoyed all year round. SeaWorld provides world-class care to more than 500 sharks. Its parks offer a range of different choices for guests to get up close by viewing, feeding, and interacting with more than a dozen species. Guests can learn more about efforts to protect threatened and endangered sharks in our parks, including being among the first to see the newest zebra shark pups in Orlando. Thrill seekers can buckle up for a thrilling ride on award winning shark-inspired coasters Great White in San Antonio and Mako, the tallest roller coaster in Orlando. When it is time to refuel, guests can enjoy dining with sharks at Sharks Underwater Grill and Bar in Orlando, and sip refreshing shark inspired cocktails like the Shark-Tail in every park.

Approximately 100 million sharks are killed by people every year in the wild, mainly for their fins, making conservation essential to preserve the species. SeaWorld is committed to educating and inspiring the next generation of shark conservationists through its park experiences.  It is also committed to shark conservation outside its parks through partnerships and the SeaWorld Conservation Fund that has donated more than $300,000 to shark research conservation projects.

“We are privileged to care for such a diverse population of shark species and to share these amazing creatures with the public,” said Dr. Chris Dold, Chief Zoological Officer at SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment. “Protecting sharks is not always top of mind in part because so many people don’t understand the importance of this species and how they help keep the ocean’s ecosystem in balance.  So, creating experiences that enable the public to learn about sharks in fun and engaging ways is essential to better understand and appreciate them as more than just predators. We encourage shark fans everywhere to come out to our park and support Shark Awareness Day and experience the wonder and awe of these stealthy creatures of the deep.”

Providing Park Guests with the Ultimate Shark Experience Including Thrilling, Interactive and Educational Encounters
SeaWorld parks provide a wide range of shark experiences and shark themed activities including:
    • Shark Encounter® offers a rare, fascinating, up-close look at these prehistoric predators whose ancestors dominated the sea more than a hundred million years before the dinosaur.  The aquarium habitats include several species of sharks, rays, and fish.  San Antonio features a 450,000-gallon aquarium and San Diego’s 280,000-gallon attraction features a 57-foot acrylic tube running the length of the sharks’ habitat. Orlando’s 700,000-gallon aquarium includes one of the world’s largest underwater viewing tunnels.
    • Explorer’s Reef is home to several species of sharks and in San Antonio this includes zebra, sand tiger, blacktip, and nurse – all of which are considered vulnerable species. Animal Care Ambassadors also share interesting insights about these awesome animals at each habitat in San Antonio and San Diego.  In San Diego, guests can feel what it’s like to touch bamboo sharks and the touch pools.
    • Behind the Scenes Shark Tours include ‘Sharks Up-Close’ in Orlando and San Antonio that enable guests to go behind the scenes above the habitat to peer down into the shark aquariums, learning how we care for sharks and discovering more about the incredible diversity and design of sharks from experts.  Guests also can touch a small shark, feed several species in the shark shallows in Orlando, and find out why these ancient species need our help now more than ever.
    • Move Like a Shark on Shark Inspired Roller Coasters include Orlando’s Mako®, voted Number 1 for Best Roller Coaster in 2021 in USA Today 10Best Reader's Choice award, that is named for one of the ocean’s fastest known sharks and is the tallest and faster roller coaster in Orlando. This hyper coaster speeds up to 73 mph and up to 200 feet high and surges through shipwreck reef.   As the first roller coaster ever at a SeaWorld park, this year marks the 25th anniversary of the Great White roller coaster, a floorless, inverted coaster with 360-degree flips and the grand-daddy of all SeaWorld® San Antonio coasters. It takes riders on a nearly 50 mph floorless run of breathtaking loops, corkscrews and thrilling curves.
    • Feed the Sharks with animal feeding stations in Orlando that enable guests to feed sharks patrolling the Shark Shallows.
    • Dine and Drink Next to Sharks at Orlando’s Sharks Underwater Grill® and Bar, recognized among the best restaurants in Orlando, and experience fascinating and ever-changing views of sharks as they swim past while guests enjoy an upscale full-service dining experience. Fan favorite cocktails the Mako Margarita and the all-new Shark-Tail offer refreshing ways for adults to cool down and beat the heat while watching these goliaths of the deep.
In addition, informative signage teaches guests important information about shark conservation and ways to get involved. For example, while guests are in the queue lines for SeaWorld Orlando’s shark-inspired roller coaster, Mako, guests can learn more about sharks through digital displays. Interactions are hosted by marine wildlife artist and conservationist Guy Harvey, who provides access to real science and insights to sharks in the wild and ways humans can help protect the species. Guests also have access to real-time shark tracking and videos of compelling shark expeditions to better understand the importance of this critical species.

World-Class Shark Care and Rescue Too
Sharks at SeaWorld receive the same standard of individualized care as every other species and animal in the park.  They are fed a nutritious diet including a variety of seafoods such as herring, mackerel, salmon, squid, and shrimp.  Every piece of food consumed by every single shark is accounted for as part of the individualized care each animal receives. Animal care specialists feed adult sharks about five percent of their body weight a week during twice weekly feeding.  Every shark in our care also receives regular health examinations that include blood draws, weight, size and more to ensure their ongoing health is monitored and tracked.
While shark rescues are rare, SeaWorld parks work with state and national organizations including the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and local departments of the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to help. For example. SeaWorld Orlando is home to several sand tiger sharks seized by law enforcement from an individual who illegally collected them. Local authorities such as the Florida Wildlife Commission enforce restrictions on the returning of animals to open water once they have been in human care.

Commitment to the Conservation of Threatened and Endangered Species
Like many other species, sharks suffer many human threats such as overfishing, entanglement, shark finning and bycatch – resulting in a reported more than 100 million deaths annually. Today, more than 300 species of sharks are classified as endangered, including white sharks, whale sharks and hammerheads.
As an accredited zoological organization, SeaWorld participates in the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) SSP, a propagation and management program in accredited zoos to preserve selected species typically classified as threatened or endangered.  In Orlando, guests can be among the first to see new zebra shark pups born as part of one such program. In San Diego, guests can see Australian leopard sharks cared for as part of maintaining sustainable populations and genetic diversity of this endangered species.

Conservation extends beyond the parks and since 2016 SeaWorld has partnered with global non-profit OCEARCH to support their efforts in shark conservation through science and education. OCEARCH helps scientists collect previously unattainable data in the ocean and to date it has tagged 432 animals on 43 expeditions and supported the research of 200 scientists.
OCEARCH Founder and Expedition Leader Chris Fischer said, "Our partnership with SeaWorld has been amazing. In the early days of our relationship, they helped us build out and broaden all the science disciplines to maximize the amount of knowledge and data we collect from every animal we sampled and released. In particular, their expertise in reproductive biology is leading the way in understanding how white sharks mate, reproduce, and give birth. We look forward to partnering with them for many years to maximize the rate at which we can collect data to return our oceans to balance and abundance."
SeaWorld also supports the efforts of other third-party conservation organizations around the world through the SeaWorld Conservation Fund. Since 2004, the fund has donated more than $300,000 to several research projects that aim to further knowledge and understanding of shark species through 3D shark tracking, exploration of vulnerable shark habitats, autonomous underwater vehicles, birthing ground, and shipwreck exploration, tagging and tracking, and more.

Wonder Woman Flight of Courage Media Day at Six Flags Magic Mountain

The day was finally here, we were finally going to get our first rides on the record breaking 20th coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Armed with all of our cameras we headed to the park yesterday morning to be among the first to ride this epic coaster.

While the opening ceremony and our ride time weren't until much later in the day, we knew we had to get there early to get some rides on Wonder Woman! And the ride does not disappoint. In this update we'll share with you all of our pics and video of Wonder Woman and the (still in progress DC Universe) as well as some thoughts on the ride. Enjoy!

Wonder Woman Flight of Courage Ride Review:

Like West Coast Racers before it, Wonder Woman Flight of Courage is simply a fun ride. It's not going to top anybody's coaster lists like Twisted Colossus or X2, but that's ok. I actually like that Magic Mountain has seemingly moved away from prototype rides and has instead moved towards having a collection of really fun attractions.

The odd thing for me is after about 6 or 7 rides on Wonder Woman, I was done for the day. Whereas with Railblazer, I rode about 30 times on that rides media day. This goes down to the ride riding VERY different than the first generation of RMC Single Rail coasters. This one definitely hits you in the stomach more, or at least it hit me in the stomach more.

The front end of the train is very "floaty" airtime, the back of the train will give you that sustained ejector airtime. It really is like two different ride experiences. And I do encourage you to ride in multiple locations on the train. There isn't a bad seat.

The loading of the ride is fantastic with the trains moving through the station in a continuous motion. When one train hits the mid-course brake, the next is being dispatched. If they can sustain this, throughput should be great for this attraction! Be warned, you cannot put your loose articles in the station due to this process. Lockers are a must. Something I personally wish they'd make mandatory on all of the parks attractions (and something I know makes people mad at me). =)

Overall, Wonder Woman Flight of Courage is a worthy addition to the coaster lineup at Six Flags Magic Mountain. There is a lot of expansion still be done in this area of the park, and we're personally hoping for a water attraction of some kind. I think the park has enough top gun stalls and zero-g rolls at this point.
    Picture

Thanks again to Magic Mountain for having us out for media day. It's always a treat!

    Opening Day

We also headed back to the park on Opening Day, here are a few opening day thoughts and pics that we didn't get on Thursday.
    Picture

Arrived about 9:00am to park and parking opened about 9:40am. I do wish they'd let people in earlier to help with traffic.

    Picture

Made it in for passholder early entry, and had to do the run (well, fast walk) to Wonder Woman

    Picture

Once we got to Wonder Woman we had to wait about 20 minutes for the ride to open (about 10:50).

    Picture

Ride not even open yet and people are trampling the planters and grass. This is why we can't have nice things.

    Picture

Ride sign, complete with sensory guidelines. Love it!

    Picture

The inside portion of the queue. This was a video for Green Lantern, now it's just a wall. I hope they'll do something here.

    Picture
    Picture
    Picture

The AC was on, but VERY low. They need to kick it up a notch in here. Thankfully with 4-train ops you're only in here for maybe 10 minutes tops.

    Picture
    Picture
    Picture

Some cool wall art on this side.

    Picture
    Picture
    Picture

    Wonder Weapons

    Picture

They've added free bins to the paid lockers and this process seems to have gone quicker than preview day.

    Picture

From under this sign it's about a 30 minute wait with 4-train ops.

    Picture

The line only went to about here, which we estimated to be about an hour. Wait times went down significantly as the day progressed.

    Picture

An overview of the newly redesigned DC Universe, that isn't done yet.

    Picture

The lack of shade in this area is a rather large issue with the heat, so stay hydrated.

    Picture

The park was absolutely empty. Reminded me of an off-season weekday.

    Picture

No Wonder Woman Flight of Courage merchandise was to be found, but some new Tatsu and Viper shirts!

    Picture
    Picture

Like an excessive amount of new Viper merch.

    Picture
    Picture

    Which makes you wonder ...

    Picture
    Picture
That's a wrap for our Wonder Woman coverage. We most likely won't be back at the park until Fright Fest. We've got a busy 2 months coming up.  Disneyland and Midsummer Scream the last weekend in July. A visit to Knott's sometime in early August and then our epic road trip in late August/early September.

We'll be hitting up Silver Dollar City, Cedar Point and Kings Island for our first ever visits to those parks. And then a day at Canada's Wonderland just before all the Halloween fun starts.

Wrath of Medusa Unleashed: Trailblazing, Seven-Looping
    Coaster Makes Legendary Return
The myth and legend of the snake-haired Gorgon Medusa begins a new chapter. Since Six Flags announced her return in March, thrill seekers worldwide have rallied behind Medusa’s homecoming to Frontier Adventures. Originally unveiled as Medusa in 1999, the world’s first floorless, top-rail roller coaster was re-branded to BIZARRO 10 years later. In 2022, this epic scream machine returns to her original form, but showcases a new color palette, logo, Gold Rush-era backstory and theming
Discover the Lost Town of Medusa
Six Flags introduces riders to the legend of “The Lost Town of Medusa.” Depicted throughout the ride queue and on the park’s YouTube channel, the tale surrounds Greek immigrant brothers who traveled to California during the Gold Rush in 1874 — exactly 100 years before Six Flags Great Adventure opened its gates. Their harrowing quest for riches led them to Death Valley and an unforgiving town of outlaws named Exile Canyon. Earth tremors, mineshaft collapses, a rattlesnake infestation and underground coal fire plagued the outpost and its dwellers. The brothers were convinced that Exile Canyon was cursed by an evil sentinel holding sway over the settlement. Their whispers took hold and earned the town the nickname “Medusa” — the Greek word for “guardian.” The town met an unfortunate end as it was wiped off the map in a ferocious flash flood. While the brothers were never seen again, the snakes remained as a solemn reminder of the legend that gripped this doomed outpost.

Slither with Medusa through Exile Canyon
Explorers begin their adventure in the rugged Old West. Guests climb aboard open-air, pedestal-like seats sitting four across. Riders’ feet dangle above the track as they slither along a twisted mass of green steel woven through Exile Canyon.
Medusa takes riders on a pulse-quickening climb up a 146-foot lift hill (more than 14 stories). The inaugural plunge — a 13-story drop at a speed of 61 mph — symbolically sends riders back in time through a ring of mist. Guests rocket through a massive, 114-foot vertical loop, followed by a gut-wrenching 96-foot dive loop as flame bursts from the town’s coal fire explosion ignite around them.

Slithering into a dramatic heart line camelback (or zero-gravity roll) then into a cobra roll (two inversions) a frightening 78 feet above the ground, the churning, coiling adventure continues with a nearly 90-degree, high-speed helix (or horizontal loop). Riders experience negative Gs as they fly over a speed hill and end their voyage with two interlocking corkscrews which coil around a massive mining auger. Medusa’s wrath consumes riders for a relentless three minutes and 15 seconds.
Medusa operates daily while her transformation nears completion. This fall during Fright Fest, the legend will continue as the restless spirits of the Batos brothers haunt Frontier Adventures in a western showdown against Medusa.

Six Flags Summer Vibes Festival and Medusa are included with park admission. For more information on Six Flags Great Adventure, Wild Safari and Hurricane Harbor, visit www.sixflags.com/greatadventure

Knott's Berry Farm Update - Fiesta Village, New Pizza Restaurant, Scary Farm, Summer Nights and More!

Happy Saturday everybody and welcome to our first update from Knott's Berry Farm since February. That's right, we even skipped the Boysenberry Festival this year. Just been busy with life and haven't had a chance to get down to the park.

Made a quick stop on my way home from San Diego as we noticed we were having some issues with our Season Passes, and I had to get it addressed before our trip to Cedar Point, Kings Island and Canada's Wonderland next month. Happy to say we're all good!!

But before that epic trip, let's see what's going on at Knott's. There is a lot!

    Always remember where you parked

Montezooma's is obviously closed, Xcelerator being closed is a bummer.

    Picture

As of yesterday, lots of walls all around Fiesta Village. Still not quite sure what they're doing here, but we can't wait to find out!

The walls extend all the way around the Arcade, Shop, Stage and La Papa Loca.

They've been nice enough to let everybody know where the entertainment is.

Not much visible work going on with Montezooma's Revenge.

Pizza for dinner sounded good! Let's check out Prop Shop Pizzeria!

    Picture

They've added a refreshments booth outside of the restaurant. Although it's hard to tell where the line is.

    A look at what's available.

    Picture

They've also included a Refreshments Entrance to the main restaurant if you aren't getting food! Nice!

    Beverages and Dessert.

The Pasta Bar. I'd suggest they swap the location of the Pizza and Pasta. The Pasta takes longer to dish out and the line backs up.

    Yummy Pizza and Beer!

If you missed out on your Paranormal Inc. Final Season mugs last year, you can get them in Toy Junction in Ghost Town. I also spotted a couple of Scary Farm shirts I don't remember from last year.

Speaking of Scary Farm, no surprise, Mesmer is coming back!

Xcelerator's Red Train is on the track, Purple train is in pieces.

Knottsopoly has a shirt now too!

Instead of flipping your table over when playing Knottsopoly, you can just have a throw. =)

Really curious to see if these are selling. Didn't notice anybody at the park wearing them.

Some other "new to me" Knott's merch. I like these!
