Knott's Boysenberry Festival 2017 Opening Weekend

    Image description
Last weekend was the kick-off of the 2017 Boysenberry Festival at Knott's Berry Farm. The expanded event this year has a lot of new boysenberry treats to try out as well as a lot of returning favorites.

This event keeps getting better and better every year.

Welcome to the 2017 Boysenberry Festival
    Picture
Most of the great food is located in Ghost Town, which means lots more people enjoying the awesomeness that is Ghost Town than usual.

Let's look at some of the food.

One of the new treats this year is Boysenberry Pizza. We have to be honest, we weren't sure what to expect from this, but it was SO good. Lots of things on this that you wouldn't think would work but they all totally do. Not sure if we could eat an entire pizza, but a slice is great.
    Picture
Boysenberry Fry Bread. Another unexpected treat. Not a huge fan of Nutella but this really was great. Be sure to grab a lot of napkins though.
    Picture
Boysenberry Corn Dog. Think more of a pancake than corn dog. Just a subtle taste of boysenberry but very tasty.
    Picture
Boysenberry Ravioli. One of those things that once again you wouldn't think works, but it really does. Again, not sure if we could eat a full plate of it, but a few is great.

While eating these we came up with a couple of ideas for next year:
    • Deep Fried Boysenberry Ravioli
    • Boysenberry Ravioli filled with Short Ribs
    Picture
Speaking of the Short Ribs. One of our favorites from last year is back and was great again.
    Picture
Another of our favorites the Boysenberry Panna Cotta. So tasty.
    Picture
And of course, what would the Boysenberry Festival be without the Fun Bun?
    Picture
    Snoopy's Boysenberry Jam-Boree!!
    Picture
    Spring has sprung!!
    Picture
    Picture
We also got to try out the new VR Showdown in Ghost Town and we all had a blast.
    Picture
    Great waiting area
    Picture
    Picture
At only $6 per game it's well worth it.
    Picture
How about a look at Sol Spin which looks to be almost done.
    Picture
    Picture
Well played Knott's ... well played.
    Picture
Knott's also installed some metal detectors last week. They look as good as they can, it's a part of our every day life now so we might as well get used to it.
    Picture
    Picture
Lastly, a look at the new slides at Soak City.
    Picture
We'll be heading back to Knott's this weekend to try some more Boysenberry goodness so expect a report on more of the great food next week.

Mine Blower construction update from Fun Spot America

    Image description
We're getting closer and closer to the summer coaster season which means that new coasters are getting closer and closer to us riding them!!

Today's update takes us to Fun Spot America in Orlando as we take a look at the newest creation from The Gravity Group ... Mine Blower.
    Written by Renée Girard
Since Fun Spot is basically in our neighborhood, we figured we should finally take a look at the progress of Mine Blower.
    Picture
It's great that parking at Fun Spot is still free, and hopefully stays that way! Old Town, next door to Fun Spot, was charging $10!
    Picture
We can't wait!! Let's see how it's looking so far.

Margaritaville Media Night at Universal Studios Hollywood CityWalk LA

    Image description
Even though it's been soft open for a few weeks, last Thursday was the official grand opening of Margaritaville at Universal Studios Hollywood. The awesome event included lots of food and drinks and a performance by none other than Jimmy Buffett himself.
We also headed back to Margaritaville later in the weekend for some more food and fun. They've priced the food and drinks to attract locals to the restaurant and it seems to be paying off. Lots of great fun to be had.

We'll also have a small park update as well at the bottom.

Looks like we're in the right place

They streamed the Jimmy Buffett performance out at CityWalk so everybody could see.

We still get kind of shocked to be included in such awesome events. Hope we never lose that. =)

We decided to head back to Margaritaville a few days later on Sunday. We had a great meal and everything is very reasonably priced. They are pricing the food and drinks to attract locals which is VERY smart.
    Picture
This was only $10 and fed both of us, and we didn't even finish it.

Some additional event pictures courtesy of Universal Studios Hollywood. Thanks again for inviting us out!!
We were going to do a separate update for the park but we have a lot of updates this week, so we figured we'd just include it here.

Patriot is now open at California's Great America

    Image description
It's always great when a classic coaster gets a new lease on life, and this year is no exception as Vortex at California's Great America has received a new lease on life this year with all new floorless trains, a great new paint job and a general freshening up of the front of the park.
The next few years are going to be very exciting for California's Great America and we can't wait to see what the future holds.

We'll start off with a great POV of Patriot

More Flower and Garden Fun and Food at EPCOT

    Image description
Time for another quick update from the EPCOT Flower and Garden Festival.

Today we've got a look at some more of the tasty food and the some new floral things added since our last update.
    Written by Renée Girard
It's a warm, spring night so we thought we'd stop by Epcot for a bit!
    Picture
Still haven't been to Flower & Garden Festival during the day, but the sunset views are always lovely!

Pretty cool photo op by the butterfly garden at Epcot.

Do you like cheese and berries? We do! The cheese strudel with berries from Germany is delicious.

    SFMM Justice League Update #6

    Image description
Yesterday was a weird kind of day. What started off as a day of travel quickly turned into a day of not a whole lot of travel, but one where we ended up in Valencia with a couple of hours to kill, so why not stop in at Magic Mountain to see what was doing and to ride a few coasters.
And that's just what we did. We'll take a look at what's been going on with Justice League since our tour a couple of weeks ago as well as some pictures and video of the Apocalypse re-do.
    Written by Gregg Condon
    Coming soon ...
    Picture
Doesn't look like anything has been done on Riddlers yet
    Picture
But it sure does need a paint job
    Picture
Weird, when we did our tour the building didn't seem that big, but it's REALLY big.
    Picture
    Picture
    Picture
Would expect work on all of this to pick up pace in the next few weeks. In fact, we noticed a crane sitting near Riddlers when we rode Batman.
    Picture
They are doing a lot of work on the food area
    Picture
    Picture
Really like the blue paint here. It's not just the normal "Six Flags Blue" that we've seen all over the place. =)
    Picture
They were doing some work around Tidal Wave, could be for the new entrance but this seems like a REALLY weird spot for it.
    Picture
    Picture
Let's move on to Apocalypse, where it's getting a very extensive (and much needed) re-track.

UPDATE: We confirmed with the park today that they are hoping to re-open Apocalypse on Easter weekend.
    Picture
    Picture
Hard to tell if anything has been done on this part of the ride
    Picture
Stuff has DEFINITELY been done on this part of the ride. Hi dude up there working!!!
    Picture
    Picture
    Picture
    Picture
It looks like they've started removing stuff from this part of the ride
    Picture
This is as close as we could get, but looks like some of the metal track has been taken out.
    Picture
A couple of random tid-bits ... the tree was removed from outside Gold Rusher awhile ago, some nice plants have been put in it's place. Really shows how much TLC Gold Rusher needs though.
    Picture
Tatsu is back open after getting it's lift hill chain replaced. Which means we're back to hearing Tatsuuuuuu at every ride now. Ugh.
    Picture
Had some lunch at Pick Six and it was good as always. Don't always eat at the park, but this is our go-to these days.
    Picture
They are doing some work in Screampunk, redoing the clock thing we'd guess.
    Picture
The steam on the Steam Engine was really steaming. Smelled like Halloween Fog. Is it time yet?
    Picture
Overall it was a beautiful and blustery day at the park.
    Picture
Remember, the park is open daily from now until Labor Day which means that once the Spring Break period is over the park will be totally empty from about mid-late April until the week of Memorial Day. It's without a doubt the best time of year to experience the park.

We'll remind you again when the time is closer. =)
