Disney's Animal Kingdom Update - Avatar, Lion King and Super Secret Project

Picture
While the rest of the online theme park community was at the Disney press event the past two days (and therefore all covering the exact same thing) we have another Animal Kingdom update.
More pictures of the enormous project known as Avatar which from looking at the pictures below is going to be HUGE (in size).
We also have some pictures of the new area for Festival of the Lion King and it looks awesome. We'll wrap up this update with the secret project being worked on over directly behind the nature trails.

* All pictures by Chris Con

Avatar

Not sure if we should be calling this Avatar, Avatar Land, Pandora, James Cameron Village or Joe Rohde Camp ... but whatever it is going to eventually be called, it's going to be huge.

Super Secret Project

Lastly, the super secret project that is currently going on behind the nature trails. The Google Maps image below shows where the construction is currently taking place.

As far as we can tell nothing was announced at the recent media event concerning this area. Anybody know anything?

Special Star Wars Day update - Star Wars Weekends 2007

Picture
Today we have a special May the 4th update, a look back at Star Wars Weekends in 2007.

If you've never experienced Star Wars Weekends they are truly a treat for fans of both Disney and Star Wars. And now that Star Wars is officially part of the Disney Universe I think we can anticipate more interaction between the two properties.

A long time ago (well not that long) in a Galaxy (Theme Park) Far Far Away (depending on where you live) ...

Star Wars: Episode 2007
REVENGE OF THE MOUSE

It is a time of celebration in the republic. The days are gay (it was Gay Days) and our weary travelers have taken their shuttle from the Kingdom of Animals to the remote planet of Disney MGM Studios (as it was named before the evil Mickey The Hutt changed the name).
Picture
Guided by their trusty droid, Hir Oressin and Alphard Quasarghost (thank you Star Wars name generator) embark on their adventure.
Picture
Upon entering the celebration we are confronted by the most vile of Disney Park icon's. Will Mickey the Hutt win again?
Picture
After confronting the evil sorcerer's hat our weary travelers take part in their Jedi training ... or would have if the young Padawan's hadn't beaten them to it.
Picture
Narrowly avoiding the AT-AT our heroes attempt to catch a shuttle to the forest moon of Endor. In the days before Fastpass+ there is no telling what evil awaits them.
Picture
Picture
Safely hidden away in the retro spaceport we await R2D2 and C-3PO's instructions on a successful flight.
Picture
At last, safety in the half trees of the forest of Endor.
Picture
What's next for our two stowaways? Perhaps a look at other destinations on the planet of MGM Studios will provide some help.

Picture
After a brief call on their communicator to secure a reservation it is decided that they will eat at the Drive In of Sci Fi. Little did they know they were to be confronted by the oldest of droids and the almighty creator ... code-name WED.
Picture
After refueling, the recruitment by the dark side of the Force continues to grow stronger.

Picture
Agents of the Empire continue to stalk and urge us to join the dark side of the force.
Picture
Picture
Does the Empire have no shame? Sending Bounty Hunters after the younglings.
Picture
Even the brutal Tuskan Raiders have been recruited by the mouse.
Picture
At long last our heroes find their traveling band and are able to escape the clutches of Mickey the Hutt
Picture
Before the celebration our travelers are greeted by a galactic officer on a warm weather Tauntaun
Picture
Suddenly the Ewok's begin to play along with a parade featuring all kinds of interesting characters

Giant pigs from the planet of THREEE-DEEEEE
Picture
Captain Lightbeer from the Andy system
Picture
R2-D2 receives his oil bath and no longer resembles an alien letter receptacle.
Picture
Luke "Bad Wig" Skywalker and Leia Solo wave in celebration in spite of doing absolutely nothing.
Picture
Maybe next time Anakin!!!
Picture
And they lived happily ever after ... (Disney does own Star Wars now so this is probably how Episode IX is going to end)

Star Wars Weekends 2014 run from May 16 through June 15 at Disney's Hollywood Studios. You can find all of the official information from Disney here.
