Today we have a special Sunday update for you as Renée headed out to Disney's Hollywood Studios yesterday to say one final goodbye to the Streets of America and a few other things that are closing to make way for the parks massive overhaul. Written by Renée Girard The stage is ready for the all-new Star Wars show that's opening this month. The already abandoned Coke snack stand and the remains of the Backlot Tour entrance. Studio Catering Co. served their final meal and cast members gather for a photo. The High Octane bar is drawing a large crowd for their last call. Mike and Sulley have packed their bags and have gone back to Monstropolis. Sad to see some cool hidden gems at DHS go, like the Splash fountain. Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground has now closed its gates Lights, Motors, Action Extreme Stunt Show played its final performance yesterday. This popular photo spot from Singing in the Rain will be no more. The sign for the Osborne Family Lights is still up for those to remember the lights throughout the years. Pizza Planet quick service food has already closed their doors San Francisco in the Streets of America. Construction walls are already up behind Muppets 3-D too. A nice little tribute to Once Upon a Time on the Streets of America. A handful of people are wandering the Streets of America one last time. (Editors Note: Interesting that when Disneyland closed the Rivers of America (which is coming back) there were enough people on hand to sink all the boats yet the Streets of America (which is not coming back) gets no fan attention, even on a busy Spring Break Saturday). New York City on the Streets of America. The Writer's Stop is also closing, to make way for a lounge as an extension of the Sci-Fi Dine In Thankfully, Muppet Vision 3D will still remain in the park. Much of this sign will be changing, to a galaxy far, far away. And that's a wrap! The Streets of America has given us many great memories throughout the years. Thanks again to Renée for another great update from Florida. We appreciate you taking the time out of your "goodbye's" to much of DHS to send us some great pics and memories. What is your favorite memory of Streets of America? Share with us below. 6 Disney Rides other than Tower of Terror that would be a better fit for Guardians of the Galaxy3/21/2016
If you paid attention to #DisneyTwitter yesterday you would have noticed a very strange rumor going around. One that uses the impending renewal for the "Twilight Zone" rights and makes a really crazy idea, even by Disney standards. That rumor was a Guardians of the Galaxy makeover for Tower of Terror. While we aren't exactly opposed to a Guardians of the Galaxy ride, and we aren't really even opposed to using an existing ride to pull it off, there are a LOT of better choices than Tower of Terror. It would take the best ride at Walt Disney World (in Gregg's opinion) and make it into one of the worst. So we figured, why not have some fun with this rumor and point out a few existing rides that would be a MUCH better fit for the Guardians of the Galaxy theme. Some of them obviously took a bit more thought than others, some of the photoshop work below isn't exactly the best, but hey, we're just having fun here anyway. #6 - Guardians of the Galaxy Track: Create your own spaceship and zoom it around "Knowhere" all while avoiding The Collector. #5 - Guardians of the Galaxy: The Ride: Using the existing Mission Space ride fly an emergency mission to Xandar to rescue the Nova Corp. #4 - Guardians Mountain: The first Space Mountain Layover at the Magic Kingdom using all new technology to fly through space with the Guardians of the Galaxy #3 - Guardians of the Galaxy Coaster starring Blue Swede: A perfect mix of Guardians of the Galaxy and the awesome soundtrack as you fly through space with Star Lord and his Awesome Mix. We bet you get "hooked on a feeling". #2 - The Land with Groot: Learn about science and nature with everybody's favorite walking, talking tree. You've never learned more in 3 words as you will on these adventures. #1 - Rocket's Great Escape: Break out of the Kyln with Rocket at the lead. Be sure you have your extra leg. So what do you think? Would you ride any (or all) of these over a Tower of Terror re-do? If you have any other ideas be sure to post them below. Today we have a great update from Renée from Walt Disney World and a look at Disney's Animal Kingdom, The Magic Kingdom and Disney's Hollywood Studios. We'll take a look at the progress for Avatar as well as Holiday celebrations at all 3 parks. Construction at Thirsty River Bar next to Expedition Everest at Disney's Animal Kingdom Mickey & Minnie are at Adventurer's Outpost at DAK in Xmas sweaters, the only place in WDW to meet them together Riverside Depot, a new building at Disney's Animal Kingdom, is out from behind the walls but not yet open Things in Pandora are finally starting to take shape for the new Avatar Land at Disney's Animal Kingdom One of the construction walls near Pizzafari at Animal Kingdom gives a glimpse into Pandora for Avatar Land Elsa & friends from Frozen light up Cinderella's castle nightly with ice and snow for the holidays at Magic Kingdom We took a trip on the Jingle Cruise tonight at Magic Kingdom. It's great to have a holiday overlay here! It may be Christmas at Disney's Hollywood Studios, but Star Wars Launch Bay opens in less than a week! |
