Halloween Horror Nights - Maze Rankings

Picture
Today we have the first of our Halloween Horror Nights updates, a look at the 6 mazes of Halloween Horror Nights.

Below our rankings and why we've ranked them this way. We've tried to keep spoilers to a minimum. Be sure to check out all the slideshows below for lots of great pictures.

We'll have more this afternoon from the Red Carpet and some video later this week. Enjoy.

Halloween: Michael Myers Comes Home
Picture
The first Halloween Maze in 2009 was my favorite maze ever. Not just from Halloween Horror Nights, but from any event, ever. And that's saying a LOT. This one, despite being a bit on the short side tops it, hands down.

Concentrating on the first Halloween (although it does have some tributes to some of the other movies) it brings out the best of Horror Nights. Most of the scares in the maze are classic, not a lot of new technology, just plain and simple. And it all works.
Crimson Peak: Maze of Madness
Picture
In any other year I think Crimson Peak would have been the top maze of the event.

If the point of this maze is to show the beautiful settings of the movie and get us all to the theater in October to see the movie, then job well done.

This is hands-down the most beautiful maze I've ever seen at Halloween Horror Nights. Lots of good scares, great talent, amazing effects, and of course the amazing gothic setting. Definitely not to be missed. This along with Halloween were the two mazes I could repeat 10 times a night. Just sad that the two mazes are at total opposite ends of the event. =)
Insidious: Return to the Further
Picture
The first Insidious maze a few years ago was amazing, you could feel "evil" in that maze, and it was amazing.

This year, the maze is still great, some really great scares but unfortunately during our walk-through it was hot and filled with too many people, nevermind the girl behind us who kept hitting us in the back with her selfie stick. So sadly it really took away from our enjoyment of the maze.

All that said, the sets are beautiful, the talent is amazing and I have a feeling this is going to be one of those mazes that improves every week. I don't think it will move up past the #3 spot however.
Alien vs Predator
Picture
Alien vs Predator is one of the first repeat mazes for HHN in a few years, and as much as they spent on this maze last year it's really no surprise.

This was a great maze last year and this year is no different. The sets are great, the crowd control seemed to be a little better than last year and the scares are fantastic.

This was actually the maze I got the biggest "scare" of the night. Sadly it takes a lot to get me, so thanks to whoever that was. We'll be posting video of that later on this week.
The Walking Dead: Wolves Not Far
Picture
Ok, where to begin with The Walking Dead. The show is amazing, has a huge fanbase and really does translate well to Halloween Horror Nights.

And while the show is on and the lines for The Walking Dead are the longest of the entire event then it's here to stay, people need to deal with it.

That being said, longer isn't always better and this was, for me, my least favorite of The Walking Dead Mazes. A few things seemed to be repeated and while the maze had some great scenes from the previous season this really seemed to be more a tribute to fans of the show, but those who don't watch the show would have been lost I think.
This Is The End
Picture
We were REALLY looking forward to this maze. Other than Halloween and Crimson Peak, this was our most anticipated maze of the night. Unfortunately it just didn't seem to work.

I'm all for a maze that is funny, but this one just wasn't. There was one HUGE laugh at the very end for me, but the rest of the maze just seemed to repeat itself about 3 or 4 times before it's inevitable ending in Hell.

The scenes that are direct recreations of the film are hands down the best parts (Jonah Hill being possessed, Channing Tatum being a slave and Craig Robinson). But other than that the rest was kind of "there". I really hope they make some tweaks to this maze in the weeks to come as it does have some potential to be really great.
We hope you enjoyed our maze overviews. Be sure to add your opinions below if you've gone through the mazes.

This afternoon we'll have a look at the Red Carpet and later this week we'll have more from the Scare Zones, the Terror Tram and of course a Wizarding World update.
