Should a DC Universe theme come to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom?

Picture
Today we're going to have a bit of fun talking about Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, namely the last major attraction they added (Superman: Ultimate Flight) and their new RMC Coaster (The Joker) and how they could actually tie in the rest of that area to a specific theme.

If you are familiar with the characters of DC you'll know that having Superman and The Joker right next to each other really doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Since Batman is nowhere to be found at the park (in ride form) it doesn't really mesh.

Obviously everything below is pure hypothetical on our end, but we have a few ideas of how they can actually tie in the rest of the area with a DC Universe theme without a whole lot of additional effort other than what they are doing now.

First, let's take a look at the area we are talking about.
Picture
Yellow area is the area we are suggesting be re-themed to DC Universe. Green is for future expansion. Red would be the entry to DC Universe
Picture
Picture
Picture
So within this area the existing attractions are Superman: Ultimate Flight, the all new Joker RMC Coaster, V2 and Tsunami Soaker. So basically surrounded by two major DC themed rides are another coaster that has no theme and a water ride with a generic theme.

First step: Re-Theme V2 to Batman: The Ride. or Batman and Robin
Picture
Sure, we aren't the first people to think about this or suggest it. I'm guessing less than an hour after The Joker was announced somebody mentioned that they should do this. I'm pretty sure we tweeted something out about it as well.

There are two possible solutions here for what they could do.

They could re-paint V2 Batman colors (the ride could use a repaint anyway).

Or

They could just re-do the station in Batman colors, keep the ride the same color and name the coaster "Batman and Robin" as the red on V2 would match that theme.
Picture
Who wants to bet that SFGAdv still has this sign and could just send it out to CA?
Second step: Re-Theme Tsunami Soaker to Aquaman
Picture
With the new Justice League being formed and a new Aquaman coming out in the next few years this is another easy fix. Obviously the depths of what they can do to this ride are somewhat limited but with a few changes they could re-theme the ride without a whole lot of effort.
Third step: DC Universe re-theme for the area.
Picture
There are already some DC Universe decorations and a store near Superman: Ultimate Flight, and we're assuming some of the area near The Joker will get some re-themeing so this would require some re-name/re-theme to the other eateries in the area which again could be done rather easily.
This may just be my own special love for Penguins talking, but how cool would "The Penguin" theme be for the nearby Penguin exhibit? Sure, it'd have to extend the DC Universe theme a bit, but that would be pretty awesome.
Picture
Picture
Future plans:

Future plans could include a Justice League: Battle for Metropolis dark ride using the area where the Go-Karts are (with some other space being used).
Picture
Could SFDK be the park that sees the Justice League dark ride move to the West Coast?
In addition, at some point V2 could be replaced with an S&S 4D coaster once that ride is ready for a change-out. It's not really the most popular ride, but maybe a re-theme as we mentioned above would rejuvenate the ride.
Picture
Batman at SFFT would easily fit where V2 is. And if they re-named V2 they could keep the same theme.
Re-themeing individual area's along with new rides has worked out REALLY well for some other Six Flags parks namely Six Flags Magic Mountain. In the past few years that park has re-done the area's around Green Lantern (DC Universe), Full Throttle, Bugs Bunny World and soon, Revolution.

So what do you think? Would you like to see SFDK re-theme this area of the park to DC Universe? This is definitely one of the best Six Flags parks and having an entire new area to celebrate their new RMC coaster seems like a great move for this park.

The Joker takes over Total Mayhem at Six Flags Great Adventure

Picture
The Joker Will Wreak Total Mayhem in 2016

Iconic DC Comics Super-Villain Masterminds Plot to Seize the
Most Insane Coaster in the History of Six Flags Great Adventure
Picture
JACKSON, N.J. ─ January 27, 2016 ─ Chaos reigns supreme at Six Flags Great Adventure in 2016 as one of the world’s most iconic DC Comics Super-Villains commandeers the park’s 14thand most unique scream machine in its history, The Joker
Picture

Earlier this fall, the world’s largest theme park announced “Total Mayhem,” which quickly became one of the world’s most anticipated new coasters of 2016. But behind the scenes, criminal mastermind The Joker was secretly plotting to take over the new 4D, free-fly coaster and name it as his own.
Picture
Picture
“The Joker is undeniably one of the greatest DC Comics Super-Villains ever created. Only someone with his warped sense of humor could provide this level of insanity ─ or spinsanity ─with a new, vertical coaster that delivers gravity-defying somersaults with utter unpredictability. It is the perfect addition to our dynamic line-up of award-winning roller coasters because this ride delivers total mayhem with its next-generation, cutting-edge thrills,” said Six Flags Great Adventure President John Fitzgerald.

After being lifted straight up a 12-story, 90-degree hill, this 4-D, free-fly coaster will wreak havoc as riders flip head-over-heels at least six times along the weightless journey. Thrill seekers will experience exhilarating leaps and dives along a horizontal plane, along with unexpected drops as they tumble from one level to the next. The wing seats amp up the pandemonium since riders will experience all of this chaos with no track above or below ─ just the sky, ground and adjacent Great Lake churning around them.

The unique design of The Joker features:

  • Massive, imposing, floating and twisting I-box track frame in a unique two-tone design
  • One-of-a-kind onboard magnetic technology featuring smooth head-over-heels free-fly flips providing guests the feeling of weightlessness as they soar outside the confines of a traditional track
  • 4-D wing vehicles that seat up to 8 per vehicle with a total of 5 vehicles
  • Face-off seats that allow riders to face each other as they tumble head over heels
  • A 120-foot-tall, 90-degree hill that is ascended by an elevator-style, chain link lift
  • Two beyond 90-degree “raven” drops giving the sensation of free-falling

The Joker is expected to wreak total mayhem beginning in the spring of 2016, and join the ranks of all legendary roller coasters at Six Flags Great Adventure.

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom - The Joker hard hat tour

Picture
This morning Six Flags Discovery Kingdom held a hard hat tour of The Joker and they were awesome enough to extend the invite to us. So we sent Stephen out to brave the mud and send some AMAZING pictures of RMC's newest re-creation.

We also did post another SFDK update earlier with some pics from last week and of Pacific Rim. Be sure to click here to check out that update.

Pictures by Stephen Harrington
It's a bit overcast in the bay area today but that doesn't stop the excitement of a great tour!!
Picture
Way cool hard hat that Stephen did get to keep. Be jealous.

Doesn't seem that long ago that this truck was first spotted at the park.

Work is definitely in progress. Some of the things the crew has had to deal with so far during construction.

As you can see there is still a long way to go, but they assure us that the ride will be open "on time" ... when that is, well, you'll know when we do. =)
Picture
So far the lift hill is the only straight piece of track on this whole ride. And that's just fine with us!!

This is the view we'll all be seeing in a few months.

Obligatory thumbs up while standing in the track picture.

Thanks again to Stephen for taking the time out of his day to go and cover the tour for us and a HUGE thanks to the park for not only setting up this great tour, but also including us. It's always such a privilege to be included in such a cool thing.
