We had an amazing time at Media Day for the all new Joker at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. Below you'll find some amazing pictures and video of the ride as well as our shenanigans, because what's a media day for a ride called The Joker without a whole bunch of shenanigans. Written by Gregg Condon Pictures by Gregg Condon and Stephen Harrington Before we get started with the media day coverage I need to give a couple of shout out's. First off to Stephen and Andrew who have been so awesome in covering the construction of this coaster (and the rest of the park). It's one thing to have awesome people who do updates for you, it's quite another to have awesome friends who take the time out of their already busy lives to do it. It's not lost on us how lucky we are to have such amazing site contributors. Be sure to check out the "Related Updates" below to check out all of their awesome coverage of The Joker. Secondly, to SFDK for having us out to their event. We are always so thankful to be included and it was great to finally meet some of their great PR team after working with them, well, longer than this site has been around actually. =) Alright, so let's get on with Media Day coverage. If you want to know what ride we're talking about (if you don't you must be living under a rock) but just in case, here's the POV of the ride. Pretty sure we're in the right place ... I'm sorry, did somebody say awesome new coaster? Because all I see are Penguins!! Stephen and Gregg took the time out from media day fun to trash some hockey (Gregg didn't realize until later that Stephen did a #GoSharks on our site twitter ... he will pay ;) ) The stage is set for The Joker The Joker with some local "jokesters" ... see what they did there? Twisty and fun!! Our "Normal" reverse POV of just the ride and our hair flying all over the place. ;) Drooool ... Because Media Days are crazy things we only managed to get two rides in (including our Reverse POV). But we'll definitely be back for more of the Jokers insanity very very soon. So we also got stopped on the ride for a few minutes, which meant we got an extra long video, so here is the "Extended Version" of the video ... which we had a lot of fun with. Some of Team Park Journey with the Joker ... He wasn't happy with one of us. Little did he know ... So a fun little aside from the awesome media day at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. I had left my house in Southern CA at about 2:15am to drive up for the event. Obviously first and foremost was getting the absolute best coverage of The Joker we could. And I hope we did. But at about 4:30am after I had finished my mini-muffins and coffee I had this "bright" idea to see if I could make it back home and to SFMM in time to ride both CA RMC coasters on the same day. Because, well, it was the TOTAL geeky thing to do and really, we like to be totally different. Or as I told my wife "As I was driving through cows I had this wacky idea". Kids, marry somebody who when you say something crazy like that she says "DO IT". Because that's just what she said. =) We had finished our POV and coverage at about 12:15 and I hit the road. I then found myself in a familiar place ... I even had a minute to say hi to Nicholas and Jeff from CW Mania who were at the park (how none of us thought to get a pic together is beyond me) I headed over to Twisted Colossus. And yes, it's stupid, it's pointless, but whatever. =) It was an epic day. Thanks again to Discovery Kingdom for not only the awesome day, but for the awesome ride. We'll have more thoughts on the "which ride is better" discussion in a later update and maybe a video breakdown of the rides to explain our thoughts on both (another one of those driving on the 5 ideas, but this one was on the way home). Related Updates: We decided to head up to Six Flags Magic Mountain the other day to take advantage of the offseason weekday crowds, and as you'll see below, this is the absolute best time of year to go to the park. But before that, let's take a look at Project 2017 and see what's doing. Written by Gregg Condon Before we get started, your reminder to get your tickets for Mountain Madness 2.0 that's coming up on June 5. JUST ADDED!!! Get a FREE reverse POV on The New Revolution during morning ERT. Click the picture below to view all of the information. We're going to start off with Tidal Wave, which is still not open. Sadly the more we look at this ride the more we fear for it's fate. For a park that consistently sees many 100 degree days during the summer the more water rides the better. Two water rides is simply not enough for this park. Looking inside the station, it kind of appears that the queue line has been taken out, let's hope not though. Moving over to where we assume the new ride(s) are going you can see a lot of space here, more than what they need for what is rumored to go here. Which could make for a very interesting 2017. As you can see, large green fences now surround the entire area. But if you know where to go you can still see in. Once construction starts it's going to be pretty obvious what's coming. The only question is, will it be obvious before the new ride announcements are made in late August/early September. Moving on, it appears a couple of the Jet Stream boats got some TLC. Unfortunately we didn't get to ride as the ride is STILL opening up at least an hour after the park on a daily basis. Along with Roaring Rapids. But as you can see, the "refurb" appears to be entirely cosmetic. Moving over to Ninja, more trees have been trimmed. Not sure if this is because they were going bad or for something else, but it's very open back here now. She does look beautiful. If you were following along on our social media during our visit you'll know we were posting pictures about a nearly empty park. Every ride was pretty much a walk-on. You know the park isn't very busy when even Tatsu's line is this short. One ride that didn't have a short line was The New Revolution. From what we could tell this wasn't just an issue of the VR, although it didn't help. Because people are concentrating so much on the VR and getting their headsets done they are forgetting the most basic of amusement park rules regarding loose articles. etc. So it's kind of a perfect storm of crap. It's going to be interesting to see if the slower operations impact the life of the VR portion of the ride. Tip: But ... if you want to use the Single Rider line and be split up, it's still available. Also, if you don't care about doing the VR remember that the front row is a non-VR row so by using the single rider line you will pretty much be instantly placed in the front row of the ride. Also also, remember, during ERT of Mountain Madness 2.0 you won't have any of these line issues. =) If you can get up to the park during the week over the next couple of weeks you're pretty much guaranteed to have light crowds ... but don't blame us if some random school group shows up. ;) Grad Night's are coming ... Allegra isn't my allergy medicine, but I'd probably switch after seeing these ad's. Lastly, the new slides for Hurricane Harbor are still sitting in front of Colossus. Considering the waterpark opens next week not sure if these new slides will be open with the park. But they shouldn't take long to install. Alright, that's going to wrap it up for this update. Our next SFMM update is probably going to be for Mountain Madness with all of the awesome fun, tours and more. So be sure you are there so you can see it in person!!!
