Six Flags announces 2015 expansion plans

Picture
Six Flags Corporation announced their 2015 expansion plans for all of their parks today. Despite some leaks we are very excited for a few of the announcements, kind of perplexed by a few, but overall happy that some parks are choosing to not just focus on new rides but overall park improvements.

Hopefully with the new rides will also come general park improvements around those rides. We'll start on the West Coast and work our way east.

Six Flags Magic Mountain Fright Fest Preview

Picture
Last night we were invited up to Six Flags Magic Mountain to get a glimpse at what is in store for Fright Fest 2014.
Over the past few years the event has steadily improved but still had some mazes that made it hard to really draw comparisons to the two other major theme park haunts in Southern California.
Based on what we saw last night, it's time to start making those comparisons.

The event was held in the Magic Moments Theater

Monsters were on hand to give us all a fright

Once inside, they had a stage set up for the gathered online media and fans

Wasn't really announced as a "maze" but upon talking to Neal later in the evening he kind of hinted that this really was the 4th maze and will be where Black Widow used to be.

Vault 666, where they keep all the scary stuff. More on this in a bit.

Last new maze, Red's Revenge which will be the largest indoor maze in Fright Fest history and have the largest set pieces. Red Riding hood finally gets her revenge. Super excited for this one!!

After the announcement we were invited over to take a tour of Vault 666 which is located behind the Full Throttle store. So THAT is what they've been doing with the back-half of the old arcade. =)

One last chance to say goodbye to Colossus

Picture
Last night a group of fans of both this site and The Coaster Guy met up for one last ride on Colossus at Six Flags Magic Mountain.

We had arranged with the park to have some of the buttons they gave out on the last "official" day on Saturday but once again, the park went above and beyond and made sure our group was on the last non-employee train of Colossus ... EVER.

Thanks again to the park and to everybody who came out to ride. We had a great time and hopefully we'll be able to do more meets in the very near future.

Below are some pictures of the rides last day in operation, mostly taken by CoasterMatt because, as you'll see below, he takes amazing pictures. Be sure to check out Matt's Flickr page for more great pictures.

Like some kind of omen, some crows were hanging out. Attempted Murder of Colossus perhaps? =)

After the park closed and the ride was open for a much-deserved employee party, we (Matt) were able to get some great night shots.

We did notice some construction stuff on site, mainly some port-a-potties and what looks like a construction office. Guessing that work is going to begin very soon, it may have already begun for all we know.
This is obviously going to be the easiest way to access the site, wonder if the tram/bus road is going to be moved and how long Goliath and/or Scream will be shut down.
Picture
Picture
Just a couple of VERY quick notes elsewhere in the park. Magic Mountain recently won a USA Today Reader's poll and was voted the #1 Theme Park in the US. Congrats.
Picture
There is also something going on behind the Go Kart track (both it and Apocalypse were closed). Let the rumors of the "OMG Giga Coaster that's going to stretch the entire back of the park" commence. =)
Picture
We hope you enjoyed one last look at Colossus. We'll be back at the park for the big Fright Fest reveal on Thursday.
