Six Flags Magic Mountain Fright Fest 2022

Last weekend we were invited out to the always fun Fright Fest at Six Flags Magic Mountain. As usual, we had a super fun night, and as usual, it's the talented actors at this event that sets it apart from some others.

Before we get started though, do have a couple of thoughts about this years event:
  • Before you plan your visit, note that the new maze Truth Or Dare is not yet open. We do not have an opening date yet, but when it does open we will be sure to let you all know. And we will be back to check it out when it does. But it is a bit disappointing that we're now going into the third weekend of the event with no new maze.
  • Despite what we had heard from opening weekend, we found the mazes and scarezones to be filled with monsters, with only a couple of exceptions. And the talent that is there are as hard working and dedicated as always.
  • A couple of the scarezones are in weird spots, while main walkways are completely void of Fright Fest.
    • The new scarezone in Bugs Bunny World is fantastic, absolutely fantastic. But it's off the path and I don't think a lot of people know about it (something we've already shared with the park and they're on it). It just seems weird that from Full Throttle to DC Universe/Screampunk, there are not Fright Fest decorations or scarezones.
    • While I do think the Terror Rising scarezone has potential, I think they should just move that to the previously mentioned spot between Full Throttle and Goliath.
    • The Deadzone really does work, but it's so off to the side in The Underground, it really doesn't get a lot of people in it.
    • With the new DC Universe, we had really hoped a full reimagining of City Under Siege would come with it, but that was not the case this year. This feels like an area in transition, and we have every confidence that this area will expand in 2023.
    • The always amazing Nightmares is our favorite scarezone of this event, and one of our favorites at any event.
  • As for the mazes, there were some hits and misses.
    • Both Willoughby's Resurrected and Vault 666 received some notable upgrades which most people probably wouldn't notice, but we certainly appreciated them. They were our favorites of the night.
    • Aftermath's size is still rather impressive, but I think it's time to replace this. Even if they expanded the theme of the Deadzone scare zone with the Neon lighting and stopped with the "hurry up because of a virus" theme it would be an improvement.
  • We also did the Spirits with Spirits (or in this case spirit). We love the direction of this, but I think the price tag ($59) is a bit much even with the free drink. The food was decent (what you would get if you have attended any event at the park) and the setting is great. If there were more people there would have been more than one Spirit there we're sure.
    • The biggest drawback here is that there is no inherent "advantage" to attending the dining event as there are at other haunts. While it's great that you can go back and eat as much as you want from 6:00 to 9:00, there is no early entry for mazes, or even a front of the line pass to a maze or attraction. I think that would definitely help give it an extra push.
But the ultimate question for every event is, "did you have fun". And the answer to that is undeniably yes.

And at the end of the day, a few things aren't going to ruin that. We just feel we should make you all aware.

Now let's get into the fun stuff!!

Seriously, Innocence is just amazing in every way.

Back down the hill, the Deadzone looks great again this year! As mentioned above, we'd love it if they expanded this theme into Aftermath next year (we said the same thing last year too).

Nightmares is one of our favorite scare zones at any event!

Some props from Red's Revenge have found their way here!

The characters at Fright Fest are always the thing that sets it apart, we could spend hours just interactive with them all.

Still the scariest thing Magic Mountain has ever done (just kidding, kind of) =)

One of our other favorite things about Fright Fest is the amazing lighting in the mazes and scare zones. Terror Rising is no exception.

As mentioned above, the new maze is not quite ready yet, but hopefully soon.

We spent a lot of time in the new scarezone/walkthrough in Bugs Bunny World, we loved it, it was filled with amazing talent, and they were eager to scare!

Definitely make sure you take some time to experience this awesome area when you visit Fright Fest.

As was mentioned earlier, not much going on in City Under Siege, but the characters here are always great, and we feel this area will be back with a vengeance next year!

The front entry area has an all new scare zone for 2022, which we actually loved!

Jokes about the name aside, this area incorporates the Six Flags Fountain extremely well.

The characters here are fantastic, and there is a show twice a night on the stage in front of the fountain.
