May 17, 2016 - Six Flags Magic Mountain Update

Picture
We decided to head up to Six Flags Magic Mountain the other day to take advantage of the offseason weekday crowds, and as you'll see below, this is the absolute best time of year to go to the park.
But before that, let's take a look at Project 2017 and see what's doing.

Written by Gregg Condon
Before we get started, your reminder to get your tickets for Mountain Madness 2.0 that's coming up on June 5.

JUST ADDED!!! Get a FREE reverse POV on The New Revolution during morning ERT.

Click the picture below to view all of the information.
Picture
We're going to start off with Tidal Wave, which is still not open. Sadly the more we look at this ride the more we fear for it's fate.
Picture
For a park that consistently sees many 100 degree days during the summer the more water rides the better. Two water rides is simply not enough for this park.
Picture
Looking inside the station, it kind of appears that the queue line has been taken out, let's hope not though.
Picture
Moving over to where we assume the new ride(s) are going you can see a lot of space here, more than what they need for what is rumored to go here. Which could make for a very interesting 2017.
Picture
Picture
As you can see, large green fences now surround the entire area.
Picture
But if you know where to go you can still see in.
Picture
Picture
Once construction starts it's going to be pretty obvious what's coming.
Picture
The only question is, will it be obvious before the new ride announcements are made in late August/early September.

Moving on, it appears a couple of the Jet Stream boats got some TLC. Unfortunately we didn't get to ride as the ride is STILL opening up at least an hour after the park on a daily basis. Along with Roaring Rapids.
Picture
Picture
But as you can see, the "refurb" appears to be entirely cosmetic.
Picture

Moving over to Ninja, more trees have been trimmed. Not sure if this is because they were going bad or for something else, but it's very open back here now.
Picture
Picture
She does look beautiful.
Picture
Picture

If you were following along on our social media during our visit you'll know we were posting pictures about a nearly empty park.
Picture
Every ride was pretty much a walk-on.
Picture
Picture
Picture
You know the park isn't very busy when even Tatsu's line is this short.
Picture
One ride that didn't have a short line was The New Revolution.

From what we could tell this wasn't just an issue of the VR, although it didn't help. Because people are concentrating so much on the VR and getting their headsets done they are forgetting the most basic of amusement park rules regarding loose articles. etc. So it's kind of a perfect storm of crap.

It's going to be interesting to see if the slower operations impact the life of the VR portion of the ride.
Picture
Tip: But ... if you want to use the Single Rider line and be split up, it's still available.

Also, if you don't care about doing the VR remember that the front row is a non-VR row so by using the single rider line you will pretty much be instantly placed in the front row of the ride.

Also also, remember, during ERT of Mountain Madness 2.0 you won't have any of these line issues. =)
Picture
If you can get up to the park during the week over the next couple of weeks you're pretty much guaranteed to have light crowds ... but don't blame us if some random school group shows up. ;)

Grad Night's are coming ...
Picture
Allegra isn't my allergy medicine, but I'd probably switch after seeing these ad's.
Picture
Picture

Lastly, the new slides for Hurricane Harbor are still sitting in front of Colossus.
Picture
Considering the waterpark opens next week not sure if these new slides will be open with the park. But they shouldn't take long to install.
Picture
Alright, that's going to wrap it up for this update. Our next SFMM update is probably going to be for Mountain Madness with all of the awesome fun, tours and more. So be sure you are there so you can see it in person!!!

What’s Included:

ERT on THE NEW REVOLUTION!!

An all day and night event including Morning ERT on The New Revolution, FREE Reverse POV on The New Revolution during ERT, backstage Tour, Group lunch, free parking and other surprises throughout the day.

Look for more surprises announced as the event gets closer.

If you have any questions feel free to post them below and we'll answer them.

We will be posting and emailing out a full schedule as the event gets closer.

FAQ's:
  • Does the ticket include park admission or is that separate - Park Admission is included in the $55 price.
  • Is there a "Season Passholder" price for this event - No, $55 was the price we were given. This is actually $10 lower than the Season Passholder price from our event last year.
  • How long will tickets be on sale - As of right now tickets will be on sale until the day of the event. However, if we start to sell a lot of tickets we will cap the event as we want everybody to get as many rides in during ERT as they want. We will let everybody know prior to halting sales if we have to.
  • Is there Free Parking - Yes. Parking is free until 9:00am, after that time parking will be $20 or you can use your Season Pass Parking if you have it.
  • If I have a season pass can I still attend the event - The park is open that day so you are of course welcome to come out. But all ERT, Tours and Picnic Area Lunch are reserved for those with tickets to the event.
  • Will Breakfast be served - No. There are plenty of local eateries and Starbucks in the area. But remember, no outside food or beverage is allowed in the park.
  • What will the tour be - We are still working that out with the park and that will be announced prior to the event.
  • Will the VR Headsets be available for ERT - We just confirmed with the park that the VR headsets will indeed be available during our ERT session. Of course, these are completely optional.
  • Will doing the reverse POV during ERT slow down operations - No. We are simply going to mount GoPro's to a specific row in each train and let them roll. We will then edit the videos after the event and send them out.

The Joker Construction Tour #2 at Discovery Kingdom

4/26/2016

Picture
Last Friday there was an awesome construction tour of The Joker at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. Unfortunately we were able to attend due to work and Japan commitments (thanks Stephen ;) ).

But never fear because the awesome Sean from California Coaster Kings was kind enough to send us some great pictures of the tour for us to share with you. Be sure to check out their awesome update from the tour here.

All pictures courtesy of California Coaster Kings
Written by Gregg Condon

Let's start off with some awesome concept art of the station. Looks very jokery. Still think it's odd that the rest of the area isn't getting a DC theme though.
Picture
The big reveal during the tour was the awesome trains, and they do look awesome.
Picture
Not Jared Leto was on hand to add a little fun to the event.
Picture
Picture
As you can see a lot of work has been done so far on the station but there is still a long way to go.
Picture
Let's move over to the track which looks to be getting closer to being done. And man, can you say Airtime? (go ahead, say it, especially if you are on the bus or something, just say it out loud. Airtime)
Picture
Vroooooom!!!
Picture
This thing is just gonna go and keep going very fast until it doesn't go fast anymore at the end.
Picture
Other than the lift you'd be hard pressed to find any straight track on this thing.
Picture
Picture
More track to be added here
Picture
Flippy Dippy Doo element (honestly have no idea what it's actually called but we'll stick with Flippy Dippy Doo)
Picture
A picture so nice we included it twice (seriously was going to delete one but where's the fun in that)
Picture
Picture
Hands up!!!
Picture
And we'll leave you with a shot of the dippy dot element (the dippin dot guy named it)
Picture
Thanks again to California Coaster Kings for the awesome pictures. If you haven't yet be sure you give them a like and follow on all of their social media.

We can't wait to ride this thing very soon. We'll let you know when we find out from the park about opening day.

The New Revolution Opening Day at Six Flags Magic Mountain

4/21/2016

Picture
Today was the grand re-opening for The New Revolution at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Even though it's been open for passholders for awhile now today was the first "public" opening and Six Flags held a brief ribbon cutting ceremony.

We'll also take a look at the 2017 project and new waterslides for Hurricane Harbor.

Welcome to Magic Mountain on a beautiful spring day.
Picture
A small stage was set up just in front of the loop, that you can actually see now. So awesome!!
Picture
The first riders were members of the local JROTC.
Picture
Nice decorations on the stage.
Picture
Bonnie, the parks manager takes the stage to make a few remarks. No 2017 hints however. =)
Picture
The mayor and mayor pro tem of Santa Clarita also made a few remarks.
Picture
Picture
After a short ceremony it was time to cut the ribbon and release the kracken ... errr, confetti.
Picture
Picture
As well as some nice low level pyro
Picture
Picture
Picture
Picture
Some of the Six Flags team that made it all happen
Picture
Over in front of the ride some nice balloons were set up in the entry area.
Picture
The line just prior to opening. After the ceremony they had to remove all the pyro so there was a bit of a delay.
Picture
Might be hard to see, but even the queue rope is red white and blue rather than the typical yellow. Nice touch that honestly, 5-6 years ago you wouldn't have seen at SFMM. So kudos on that!!
Picture
So the ride is officially open, we took 2 rides once it opened and experienced minimal stacking (maybe 30 seconds at most) and from what we could tell this was due to 1 or 2 people having issues with the headsets.

So while it didn't seem today that the VR was causing delays the real test is going to be over the weekend and if they keep the staffing up for the ride.

If you are going to the park this weekend be sure to be patient, get to the ride early, but most importantly, reach out to us and send us pictures and updates on operations. ;)

Decided to head to the back of the park and look at where the 2017 project is going. They've added some fences around the area ... hope we aren't to blame for this. =)
Picture
Picture
But if you are going to use a nearby vending machine you can still get a peek inside. =)
Picture
Picture

Lastly, more slide pieces have shown up onsite and should be moving into the waterpark soon we'd imagine.
Picture

Picture
Alright, that's going to wrap it up for our New Revolution coverage, not quite as extensive as Twisted Colossus last year but we are so happy to have this classic ride back the way God, er, Anton intended.

If you want to ride Revolution with NO LINES be sure you register for our event coming up on June 5. We'll have ERT on The New Revolution, Backstage tours, Food and more. Click the picture below for all the details.
