It's been since that game when that one team had a big lead and gave it up to that other team at the end since we've had a Justice League update. And while we have a special Justice League treat coming up later this week we figured since we were on an epic "Park Hop" day we should do a quick update from the park. But Justice League isn't all this update is about, there's some big changes going on with Apocalypse as well. Read on to find out. Written by Gregg Condon We'll start at the far end of the construction area and work our way around. As of right now, no work done on the new entrance for Tidal Wave. We're still holding out hope that they aren't going to move the entrance but instead give the ride a re-theme to fit Metropolis. The building is almost completely sealed in at this point. Sorry for the crooked pics, it's easier to get pictures with the cell phone in this area than with the big camera. More stuff looks like it's been cleared out from JB's, but no re-theme yet. Lots of clearing of land, and a few wrapped up doodads here and there ... hmmm. Doesn't look like much now, but wait. Birds eye view. Lots of work still to be done. Doesn't look like much change to the eateries yet. As we first shared with you on Thursday, a company called Wood Coaster Developments is doing some major work on Apocalypse. While it wasn't clear how major the work actually was a couple of days ago, we're pretty sure that after seeing the pictures below you'll agree it's pretty major. "temporarily" Unless having a crap load of track removed is just a "temporary" thing. =) Was kind of shocked to see so much track gone. This is a MAJOR (and much needed) refurb. While some parts of the track are gone entirely, some are still standing ... for now? Big ass crane on site, and no, this isn't the one for Aftermath 2. A look at some of the track that's been removed so far. We had thought at first that this may be pre-fabricated track, but it wouldn't just be laid out like that if it was. We don't think. =) Maybe sometime this year Southern California will have 2 awesome wooden coasters at the same time!! When is the last time that happened? (never, the answer is never) Tatsu is still closed, also temporarily. No visible work going on with the replacement of the lift hill chain. Didn't make it up the hill though. One last little tidbit, the Xtreme Zone store was closed, and while it still had merchandise inside, it looked to just be a "storage" area. Honestly, we'd love for this entire area of the park (from Jet Stream to Apocalypse) to get a major makeover now that Apocalypse is seemingly going to return to greatness. We'd love to see a complete re-theme of Apocalypse to some kind of "boardwalk" coaster and a re-do of this entire area with maybe a few flats and perhaps a Ferris Wheel. That's what I'd do. Right now, Apocalypse just doesn't match the theme of the rest of the area, unless you consider Candy Stores and Cold Stone to be post apocalyptic. =) Alright, that's going to wrap it up for this update. If you were following along on our social media over the weekend you probably already know it's going to be a busy week of updates this week. We've got Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, Universal Studios Hollywood, California's Great America and Busch Gardens Tampa. Team Park Journey has been busy little bees this weekend. So stay tuned for all of that this week!! Related Updates: Happy Super Bowl Sunday everybody. We started our day off with a quick visit to Magic Mountain to check out the progress on Justice League and of course to ride a few rides. Lots of new changes to the ride as it's almost totally enclosed as well as a few interesting changes to the surrounding area that we'll get into below. Written by Gregg Condon Walls are starting to show up on Justice League Most of the side walls are up, the back wall is totally up and the front wall is getting close to being done. We'd anticipate all of the walls being done by this time next week. Doesn't look like any re-painting has been done on Riddler's Revenge yet, but the gas station is gone, which is interesting because in some pics sent to us from The Coaster Guy it was repainted last week. Not sure what happened that caused the change. Last week it was there and re-painted (thanks to The Coaster Guy for allowing us to use this pic) On the back side not much work on the beer garden yet The eateries are getting some nice freshening up, hopefully inside and outside. An overhead view of the area Not much change on JB's yet Lots of drywall ready to go up The area where the tree was in front of Scrambler has been paved over Hopefully these trees aren't next Moving on, some ground work being done in front of Twisted Colossus, the "store" is gone as well. In preparation for a SF Corporate event this month, some Fright Fest decorations are coming back. They will be showing off Fright Fest and Holiday In The Park for the event. Batman is still running one train as the other is in refurb, it looks like some of the new'ish paint is coming up. =( Apocalypse is still closed although there's no sign outside stating that it's closed for refurb. Likewise, Tatsu is still closed with a sign that says "Temporarily Closed". Alright, that's going to wrap it up for this update, we hope you enjoyed seeing the progress on Justice League. We're hoping for another construction tour in the very near future. Related Updates: Well ... that was quick. It just seems a couple of weeks ago our last Justice League Update just had some concrete and no walls and no roof and Riddlers Revenge was still open. Wait, it was. Well this week we have walls, well, the supports for walls and a roof, well, the supports for a roof. But they are moving at lightning speed now. Let's take a look! Written by Gregg Condon You can start to see the building from all the way back by Sandblasters (that's the Bumper Cars for those unfamiliar with the park) They've opened up more of the Metropolis area and something appears to be missing ... No more rock wall!! Here's a good look at the rides proximity to Riddlers Revenge And the backside of the building, you can see that the Gazebo has been moved (we think) to where the beer garden will be (we think). From the back you can see just how big the building is. Lots of room for what will probably be a part of the queue (we think). An aerial view of the entire area, looks like some flowers have been removed from the Riddlers entry area, but some trees (and the gas station) are still there. Just like with every other recent attraction at the park this also includes a complete re-do of the area around the ride. The last ride to not come with an area re-do was Terminator/Apocalypse, and that area of the park REALLY sticks out now. Let's hope that's next. ♫ I got my hat ... on ♫ Of course this means that all of the food locations in the area are closed Including JB's which will obviously be renamed These aren't the tables that were here, they look like the ones from the eatery closer to Gold Rusher. This one. ;) Some much needed improvements to this area A look inside the Metropolis area Some trees have been removed near the Scrambler (insert tree falling on Scrambler joke here) Also near Gold Rusher Not sure if this has ANYTHING to do with Metropolis, but because CA has been in such a drought the past few years (even with all of our recent rain) a lot of trees have died. We had to cut down a few at our house as well sadly. No work done yet on the future entrance for Tidal Wave. Still say it would take less work to rename this to match the Metropolis theme than to move the entrance and keep the name. There are some things going on elsewhere in the park. A fence is now up around the Sky Tower. Don't expect this to be for anything related to the Sky Tower. It's most likely for work going on with Tatsu which is getting it's lift hill chain replaced. And it's no small job. Expect the ride to be down for at least a few weeks, if not a month. For some reason even though the ride is down for weeks they have a "Temporarily Closed" sign and an Employee out front. Which probably means people are coming by all day asking if it's going to open. Would be easier to just put a wall up and free that Employee to work on an open ride. The Revolution is running without VR (or in "Classic Style" whatever that is) for a limited time. How limited that time? Who knows. But the ride is still incredibly popular even without the VR. With VR this line would have easily been over an hour. Without VR, I was on in about 25 minutes. The employees working the ride seemed to actually enjoy working the ride. Let's hope the VR moves to another ride and not back on Revolution. A few other random park notes ... All of the decorations are still up in Gleampunk District as well as the music. Guessing all of the recent rain has delayed the removal of props. But it's fine, it still looks awesome. Not sure if this is new, but I've certainly never noticed it before. Also could be that all of our visits for the previous 4 months were all Fright Fest/Holiday In The Park related. =) Batman is currently running 1 train as the other is being refurbed. My favorite spot to get Superman/Lex Luthor pics. And we'll leave you with a pic of me and Sad Batman ... he said he was always lonely. Poor guy. ;) One other random note, noticed Apocalypse was closed but forgot to investigate if it was just down or under refurb. We hope you enjoyed the update, it'll probably be a couple of weeks before our next SFMM update, lots of busy stuff coming up. At some point this week we will be having another Facebook Live Chat to discuss 2016 attractions and giving away some IAAPA stuff, so stay tuned to our social media for details about that. You won't want to miss it!! Related Updates: |
