What a Lovely Day!!! Seriously. Media Day for Twisted Colossus was all kinds of amazing. Not only is Twisted Colossus amazing, not only is the Steampunk District amazing, not only is Scream back open (tee hee) but Six Flags Magic Mountain just put on what is probably their best media day event, at least best out of the half dozen or so we've been to. More than it just being an amazing day, you could tell by how relaxed and at ease the Six Flags Magic Mountain management and staff were, they know they've got an absolute hit on their hands, and they hands down do. Below we'll break down Media Day and share some videos (there are four of them). Our full reviews of the ride and area will come after opening weekend. Written by Gregg Condon - Photo's by CoasterMatt and Gregg Condon - Video by Gregg Condon First up, let's kick off the event with Bonnie Rabjohn and friends opening Twisted Colossus with lots of pyro. Because pyro makes everything better. Be sure to watch all of the video's below in HD Quality!!! And of course, we've got some amazing pictures as well. Bonnie Rabjohn addressing the crowd. We actually spent a lot of time just chatting with Bonnie at the event, she's always been so gracious and cool with us and it's much appreciated. Like I said above, you can just tell by her staff that they love working for her and that they all love what Twisted Colossus and the Screampunk District will bring to the park. This is obviously one of CoasterMatt's shots. And this one too. =) One of only two contributions from Gregg this update. =) Enjoy the ride in motion ... Bonnie Rabjohn, Doug, Greg and Jeff Bernard (who built the original Colossus) and Fred Grubb from RMC. Twisted Colossus is hardly the only thing new at Magic Mountain, the Screampunk District looks AMAZING and along with DC Universe is the best themed area in the park. It's easy for people to say Twisted Colossus is so good because it was done by RMC, but keep in mind, everything else from Twisted Colossus being painted and having wood replaced to the queue to ALL of Screampunk was done in-house at Six Flags. And they did an AMAZING job. Below we have a full walk-through of the area and a lot of the little touches they added really do go a long way. As you'll see from the pics below, it really is quite amazing. New at the Gearworks Theatre this summer is Kwerk created by Michael Turco who has done a few shows at the park now as well as the Fright Feast dinner shows for Fright Fest. We saw a preview of the show and enjoyed it a lot. Definitely the most ambitious show Six Flags Magic Mountain has ever attempted. Hopefully people will take the time to see it. Lots of great little touches in the area and it's nice that they went drought resistant here in California. Been looking for a new bike ... =) Last and certainly not least, the crown jewel in the parks coaster line-up ... Twisted Colossus. We've got two great videos for you. First up a walk-through of the queue building and a POV video from the last seat on the train. I love that they've re-purposed the Colossus building but updated it to fit the theme, but also keeping some little touches of the original. It works very well. Great steampunk touches in the queue. And of course, our reverse POV footage and full on-ride POV of Twisted Colossus. Thanks for following along with our updates during media day, without a doubt it was the single biggest day in the history of this website, on social media anyway. A lot of new fans have found us on Facebook (almost 60 on Media Day) and for that we are totally grateful for you fans sharing our updates. One of our posts (the POV video) received more than 10,000 views in the first few hours, for us that's simply unbelievable and unfathomable. But we are so grateful you've all enjoyed the updates. And of course, in August we'll be hearing what Six Flags is bringing to their parks in 2016 and this will all be starting over again. And we'll of course be along for the ride. It's finally here ... almost 9 months to the day since Colossus closed, it's had a baby, and it's amazing and glorious and all of the things that Six Flags Magic Mountain has needed for years. Colossus closed on August 16, 2014 and Twisted Colossus opens this Saturday May 23, 2014. Tomorrow we'll be at Media Day and then back at the park on Thursday and Saturday but in the meantime, let's take a look back at the last 9 months of construction. Click on any of the pictures below to view the individual update. Thanks for following alone over the last 9 months of construction. We've grown bigger than we ever thought possible over the last few months and that's due to all of your support. We are looking forward to hearing what you all think of the ride and meeting some of you this week. Don't forget about our meet-up on Opening Day. Click the link to RSVP and where we'll be meeting. If you have any comments, please share them below. Yesterday we were invited back out to Six Flags Magic Mountain to get a final up close and personal look at Twisted Colossus. To say this thing is impressive to see in person would be a gross understatement. Unfortunately the ride was not testing during our tour. Later in the day however, CoasterMatt was at the park and was able to get some great pictures and video of the ride testing. So we'll share those as well. Get ready to see some great pics!! Before we get started with any of the pictures ... TWISTED COLOSSUS WILL OPEN ON SATURDAY MAY 23!!!!! So make your plans accordingly. We still don't know when media day is or if there will be any kind of "preview", but as soon as we know, we'll certainly let you know. But maybe try and get a couple days off towards the end of that week just in case. =) We're also trying something a little bit different today for those of you who like to see video, a full video walk-through of the tour. If you like this let us know and we'll do more of them in the future. Alright, lets get to some pictures of the tour. From outside the park, it was a beautiful morning. Who thinks the best kind of G's are Zero G's? According to the park, about 45% of the total wood on Colossus will be replaced by the time opening arrives on May 23. This just seems unfair to all other coasters. Who thinks the best kind of G's are insanely crazy ejector positive G's? The final Double-Up which I'll be honest, seemed like a "eh" thing until I saw the video below. Later in the day, CoasterMatt was able to get some great pictures and video of the ride testing. Cresting the lift hill ... click to see a larger version. Heading into the High Five element Right about here you're are probably going to be quite happy the ride has seat belts. In addition to a tour of the structure, we also got to look at the station and the rest of the Steampunk District stuff. Purple and Blue, ready to do their business. Green will be coming later as it won't be needed until one of the existing trains goes down for refurb. There will also be a building going over the storage track at some point. Fully functional ride op panel A look at the station. Standing on where in August would have been the track of Colossus was very weird. Queue entry, the left will be the normal line, right will be ADA and Flashpass. OG Colossus signs. Stairs (check), twisty bushes (check), drought resistant plants (check) They are also doing some really cool Steampunk'y art type things in the planters. Love this one. Looks like they are getting ready for the new entry display to the Steampunk District. Finally, the new Gearworks theater is looking great. I like the way they went with this. They were working on the Marquee Alright, that's going to wrap it up for our last look at Twisted Colossus prior to media day. A special thanks again to CoasterMatt for getting the great testing video and pictures later in the afternoon. Much appreciated. I'll also be heading back up to the area later today for an NFL draft party, if I get any indication that the ride is testing I'll stop by and get some more pics and video. Thanks again for all the support, we'll see you on May 23!!!
